Lindsey Davis raised a lot of eyebrows with her stellar tournament play.
Lindsey James raised lots of eyebrows with her stellar tournament play.

Lindsey James made quite an impression in her first major softball tournament of the summer.

Playing in the recent USSSA Shootout on the Plains in Brighton, Colo., the 2017 National Scouting Report prospect stole the show.

James dominated play against outstanding competition, helping her Colorado Strike Force travel team to a second-place finish and earning co-MVP honors.

A 5-foot-8 third baseman at Gilpin County Undivided High School in Black Hawk, Colo., James is also a standout in the classroom, posting a 3.56 GPA.  She plans to major in Sports Medicine in college.

Black Hawk (elevation: 8,537),  a former mining town, is the least populous city in the state. Because the town is situated so remotely in the mountains, James must commute several miles each every week for softball practices and tournaments.

Gil Barkey, NSR area director in Northeast Colorado, discovered James. He said her athleticism, leadership and upside make her a prized prospect.

“What has always impressed me about Lindsey is her work ethic and desire to compete at a high level,” Barkey wrote in his NSR scout report. “She pushes herself and her consistent effort sets the tone for her team. She is a high-character young woman and will be a great asset on the field and in the dugout for whichever college is lucky enough to sign her.”

James said she will work hard — on and off the field — to attract college coaches.

“I am a natural-born leader, and when I step on that field, I make sure everyone remembers my name,” James wrote in her personal message to college coaches. “I am constantly working to improve myself and my team, and every day I make sure to do an hour of throwing, fielding, pitching, and batting reps. I am a devoted Christian, student and athlete. My strongest qualities are my perseverance and aggression. I never give up on anything, and you will never find someone that works as hard as I do.”
