Every college coach uses one – the infamous recruiting board.

Your prospect should be on as many recruiting boards as possible to stand a chance at receiving a scholarship offer. We tapped on the door of NSR’s VP of Public Relations and former Ole Miss football player, and one of NSR’s most successful scouts ever, Robert Cagle, to get his thoughts.

It is a familiar topic to Robert Cagle. Not only was he recruited and served on the school’s football recruiting staff, but both of his children were recently recruited by Division I programs. These experiences have given him a variety of unique perspectives from which to observe recruiting.

“College coaches will begin keeping track of the athletes they are interested in recruiting when they have decided to begin comparing athletes for a scholarship spot,” Cagle explained. Coaches will have athletes listed by grad year and position.”

It will also have a depth chart for each position which will have the athletes in the order coaches have placed the athletes, he continued. “This order usually starts with the top choice and goes down from there. Boards at the D-I level for football, for instance, are very detailed and impressive. They will have as many as 20 athletes on it for each position. The boards will have different colors on kids’ name plates that represent things such as offered, committed, offered by another school or watch list.”

“The board will change as evaluations and circumstances change. The truth is that these recruiting boards are the lifeblood of a program. Coaches live by them. The staff will meet on a weekly basis to discuss each prospect’s status. As the signing period gets closer, the coaches will meet as many as three times each week and evaluate the board.”

National Scouting Report’s job is to get prospects on recruiting boards by putting them in the position to be recognized and evaluated. With a remarkable success rate, nearly every NSR prospect gets recruited. That means NSR kids are consistently going up on those boards.

Is your kid on a recruiting board, or two or three or more of them. If not, your athlete may not be recruited at all.
