Before we enter 2016, it’s time for National Scouting Report prospects — and potential prospects — to make some New Year’s resolutions.
Here are 10 do’s and don’ts for the year ahead:
DO’S
- Register with the NCAA Eligibility Center as soon as possible.
- Raise your GPA as high as possible.
- Take and retake the SAT and/or ACT as soon as possible.
- Ask somebody to shoot and/or reshoot video of you.
- Communicate regularly with college coaches.
- Answer all of your emails from college coaches.
- Try to create competition among college coaches.
- Consider out-of-state colleges.
- Visit college campuses.
- Contact National Scouting Report for a free evaluation.
DON’TS
- Wait until your junior or senior year of high school to start the recruiting process.
- Try to navigate the recruiting process alone.
- Think college coaches will find you if you’re good enough to play.
- Think college coaches will discover you at camps, tournaments and showcases.
- Limit your options to NCAA Division I and II schools.
- Limit your options to schools close to home.
- Depend on high school or club coaches to get you recruited.
- Think talent alone will get you offers.
- Settle for only one offer.
