Raw talent is important for college lacrosse prospects. So is size. So is scoring ability. So are good grades.

National Scouting Report 2017 lacrosse prospect Cameron Wright has them all.

A 6-foot-3 junior midfielder from Gorham High School in Maine, Wright began playing the sport only four years ago. But with his size, intelligence, strength and penchant for finding the net, he brought enough to the table to turn the head of NSR national lacrosse director Brendan Kennedy, who is not easily impressed.

“Cameron has developed into a real strong prospect,” Kennedy said. “He gets his shot off from all angles and has a real strong shot. He can also faceoff and has deceptive speed because of his height. Cam works hard on his skills and practices often to improve his weaknesses. He is improving on his left hand and overall core strength. Cam is a player who will continue to grow and can be a very good college prospect.”

Wright set some lofty personal and team goals for this season.

“I am preparing myself for my best year academically and physically,” he wrote in his NSR personal message to college coaches. “I am in the gym four or five times a week working on my strength, speed, and agility. After my sophomore year ended, I realized I was sick of losing. Losing to the same team three years in a row doesn’t sit well in my stomach. After my best season with 49 goals and 32 assists, I’m planning to make an even bigger impact this year. My goals for the year is to get the All-American title and also attend the Underclassmen Showcase.”

Wright, who sports a 3.1 GPA, plans to pursue a degree in Business Management. College coaches can count on him to attend class. He hasn’t missed a day of school in more than three years.

“Cam is a great kid,” Kennedy said. “I’m sure he will reach his goals — whatever they are.”
