Take Charge of Your Future with Hard Work in the Classroom

Study where you can when you can to improve your GPA and scholarship opportunities.

There is one semester left this year to impact your GPA.  Don’t slack off now.  And if you’ve been promising all school year to buckle down on your studies, do it now or suffer the consequences.  It’s within your power to make good things happen.

College coaches rarely give full athletic scholarships.  They “package” athletes with a combination of athletic, academic and need-based money.  But, if your GPA is low, your package will not be as good as it could be.  That will mean that you will have to take out more student loans which you will have to repay when you graduate.  To minimize the financial burden on yourself, raise your core course GPA.

Core courses are where it all happens academically.  PE, basket weaving and other electives may be fun distractions, but in the final analysis, you have to do well in Math, English, History, Science, Foreign Language and other academically focused courses to influence your core GPA.

Need help doing this?  Go to your guidance counselor and teachers.  Explain your GPA goals.  Ask for their advice, then make a plan and dedicate yourself to following it.  Knuckle down.  Avoid the same old things which have kept you from reaching your potential.  Do it differently.  Forget about TV and texting.  Put your future first.

College coaches view solid academic performance as a mirror image of who you are as a person and the type student-athlete you will be in college.  Not taking academics seriously will drop you down in their recruiting list.  Good scores, however, could give you more scholarship offers than you thought possible.

Time is winding down.  Grab hold of your future with both hands and steer it toward success.  Take your  books home, study at every opportunity and give yourself the additional chances other less focused athletes will miss out on.  It’s your time, as they say.  Put your studies on the front burner and push hard to get the grade point average you know is there for you if you only give it your best effort.
