We Can’t Explain It, but There’s No Question at This Point

Let’s go ahead and say it:  2010 is “College Upset Year.”  We’ve noted it in two previous T*W*I*S pieces, but it continues to happen week after week.  It’s to the point where we have to recognize it for what it is.  In practically every college sport and at every level of play reports continue to come in detailing surprise upset wins by underdog teams.  Was the tipping point four years ago when Appalachian State’s football team turned the college world on its collective ear with the Upset Which Shocked the World versus Michigan?  Perhaps.  But, whether 2010 will become noted as the beginning of across-the-board true parity in college sports is yet to be determined.  Nonetheless, there is little doubt that this fall in particular will long be known as the most  unpredictable year in recent memory.  Are domineering teams a thing of the past?  Will we ever see another dynasty?  With bottom tier and also-rans constantly taking championship caliber units to the well, college sports is as interesting for fans and onlookers as ever before.  Our hats are off to the little guys!  Keep it up!
