Shot in the Dark Was Literally That on Fourth Play-0ff Hole

Byrd’s walk-off ace is a golf rarity.

How we love cool endings and this is one deserving of our weekly award for what’s good in sports.  This time we head out to the Nevada desert and TPC Summerlin to find our TWIS recipient.  We would say it’s Jonathan Byrd’s lucky day, but he already had one of those.  On the fourth hole of a three-way playoff in the PGA Tour‘s Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in Las Vegas, Byrd accomplished something extremely rare even for the PGA.  There was barely enough light to see the green, much less the flag, on the 204-yard par four 17th hole.  Hitting and wishing, his ball hit the green about 12 feet from the pin, took a couple of harmless bounces and dropped in the cup.  There was so little light available, no one on the tee box actually saw the miraculous shot.  It was Byrd’s second competitive ace and his fourth PGA victory.  See it for yourself here.  Very cool, Mr. Byrd!
