Prospects should keep a close eye on all their social media pages to avoid problems with college coaches.

Social media echoes a prospect’s character through words and pictures to coaches.

A prospect’s chances of being recruited can, in fact, be enhanced or ruined by how they manage their social media pages. The proof comes from the day-to-day work National Scouting Report scouts do with their prospects.

It is not uncommon for NSR scouts to contact prospects and advise them to delete posts. Carelessness is not rampant for most prospects, but it is a temptation which has a constant presence.

Here are four things prospects can do to avoid having their reputation or character sullied:

  1. Avoid posting negative personal feelings about anything. Social media is no place to expose or express anger, jealousy, bullying or the like.  Once that happens and others share it, things only can go downhill from there.
  2. Avoid sharing a negative post from someone else. It is not your place to spread anything but good cheer and news. Let less careful others take the low road. Stay above the fray.
  3. Avoid posting pictures which show you in compromising or unflattering positions. No coach wants to recruit a prospect who does not possess self-respect or does not understand that such a post casts a negative reflection on them and their team.
  4. Remove any distasteful post on your wall from someone else. Do not permit others to damage your reputation or character by failing to monitor your social media pages.

If you want to impress college coaches, keep all social media pages as positive as possible. They are looking. You can be sure of that.
