Gridiron Prospect Takes the Term Student-Athlete Seriously

NSR 2011 football prospect Peter Karczewski from Waukesha Catholic Memorial High in Waukesha, Wis. is an extraordinary young man.  Not blessed with blazing speed as a running back, Peter nonetheless excels at the position because of a characteristic which touches all parts of his life — determination.  In his personal essay to college coaches, Peter said the following:  “Determination is a trait that has been an attribute I am very proud of and try to keep up every day that I play football or am in the classroom. Football is a sport in which determination is demanded from every athlete to improve in the sport. In every practice and every game, I am determined to help the team to improve and every Friday night to earn a victory. As final exams began last year, I set the goal of having all A’s and studied as hard as I could to try to achieve this goal. Because I was so determined, I achieved my goal and did extremely well in my classes.”  Two weeks ago, Peter’s determined attitude was on full display in the WIAA Division 3 state semi-finals — he had a record-breaking game.  His 50 carries and 308 yards were both school records. He also ran for two touchdowns.  Additionally, the 5’11”, 205-pound running back had 200-yard games in first- and second-round playoff games.  He ran for 215 yards and three TD’s on 24 carries in a first-round win and recorded 207 yards and one score on 22 rushes in a 2nd-round win. For the year, Peter tallied 1,874 yards on 280 carries (6.7 average) with 17 touchdowns.  The Crusaders finished as the state runners-up with an 11-3 overall record and a  5-2 Classic 8 Conference mark.   For his outstanding season-long performance, Peter was named first team All-Conference.  He is an outstanding student as well having earned a 3.23 GPA.  Peter’s NSR scout is Jason Lauren, Area Director for Southeast Wisconsin.
