There is no denying it. Every prospect’s top nemesis? The clock.

With a short four years to be recognized, evaluated, compared to other like athletes, and finally recruited, make campus visits, and perhaps offered, every tic-toc of the clock counts. Those are a lot of things which need to happen. The less time a family has to do it all, the lower their odds of it ending well.

Amazingly, parents and prospects procrastinate day after day, week after week, month after month, and, yes, year after year before deciding to get seriously involved in the recruiting process. When the athlete makes a commitment to play in college, there is no time to waste.

When you look at the facts, it’s a strategy that is simply unjustifiable.

The hard truth – after high school, a family will face head-on a daunting four-year educational invoice to the tune of $30,000.00 on average per academic year. Total? $120,000. Ouch!
Watching The Clock
Knowing this, families have two choices:

1) Prepare

2) Ignore.

With that predicament waiting just around the corner, here are some sobering recruiting stats to consider:

  • 1,460 –  total days in the recruiting process for high school prospects when they enter the ninth grade
  • 200 – approximate number of days a college coach recruits away from campus in four years;  many have fewer days due to budget restraints
  • 50 – average number of club, travel and high school contests a high school athlete plays in annually, most of which college coaches will not see
  • 2 million – per grade, the total number of high school participating athletes in the United States
  • 120,000 – per grade, the total number of high school athletes that will play in the NCAA
  • 8 – the percent of high school prospects that go on to play in college
  • 95+ – the percent of National Scouting Report prospects that receive offers to play college athletics

So, here are the must-answer questions for families:

  1. Where is your athlete in the four phases of the recruiting process at this moment?
    • Recognition:  How many coaches really know about your athlete?
    • Evaluation:  How many coaches have actually evaluated your athlete (on video or in person)?
    • Comparison:  Is your athlete currently being compared to others?
    • Offers:  Does your athlete have any firm offers from college coaches?
  2. Are you waiting for coaches to find your athlete?
  3. Have you consulted with a professional college scout about how to get your athlete in front of more college coaches?

At National Scouting Report, we know recruiting. We started the college scouting industry.

Finally, what is your excuse for waiting another day to take charge of your athlete’s future? The clock is ticking.
