Morgan Weeg is a leader on and off the court at Aqua Fria High School in Arizona.

When Morgan Weeg came to Josh Kroeger’s attention, he knew he had found a special athlete. Her leadership on the volleyball court was unmistakable.

“She was the most vocal player on the court,” he said. “Her leadership qualities were recognizable immediately.”

As a scout for National Scouting Report, Kroeger had evaluated a lot of volleyball prospects. However, when he got to know Weeg, he quickly learned he not only had discovered a volleyball player capable of competing in college, but a superb student.  She was, in short, the ideal student-athlete.

“Her presence, attitude and approach on the volleyball court are a direct reflection of her hard work and study habits in the classroom, Kroeger said.

Weeg, a senior at Aqua Fria High School in Avondale, Ariz., is in the top 5 percent of her class, holds a 4.31 GPA, is a member of the National Honor Society, has earned a spot on the Principals List all three years in high school and has been Student Council Class Vice President since 2012.  Following her junior season, she made All-District and was named her team’s MVP.

All those accomplishments combined make her an outstanding college prospect.

At 6 feet and 215 pounds, Weeg is a dominant presence on the front line. According to Kroeger, she is a powerful hitter and very good defensive blocker who continues to work hard on improving her game.

“Morgan has surprisingly quick feet,” Kroeger said. “She is currently working on strengthening her core and endurance to maximize her vertical potential, and her back row defense.”

Weeg’s personality shines through on and off the court.

“I am highly active in my volleyball club,” she said. “I have helped coach the 12s and 13s.  I also coach a recreational team in Avondale, Arizona.  I am constantly involved in this crazy world of volleyball.  I have always been told that my energy is infectious and my talking is constant.  Those traits have made me a successful volleyball player and a loveable person off the court.”

Weeg has big plans for college — and beyond.

“I have decided that I would like to major in physical therapy and athletic training with a minor in Kinesiology,” she said.  “I hope to add a minor in coaching, too. I want to be able to one day help other little girls fall in love with the sport I have so deeply fallen in love with.”
