Southpaw Turning in Another Solid Year for Elon

Elon’s Lauren Taylor has been honored as the Pitcher of the Week in the Southern Conference for all games played from February 28 through March 6.  Lauren, a senior at Elon, started two games and went 2-1 at the Stetson Invitational in DeLand, Fla.  The Lillington, NC, native threw 13.2 innings with a 1.62 ERA.  She allowed only three runs off 14 hits while mowing down 16 by strikeout.  She improved her record to 6-2 and ERA to 1.88.    

A transfer from N.C. State  in 2009, Lauren was a mainstay on the Phoenix pitching staff in 2010.  She was instrumental in helping Elon to a school record 38 wins en route to the Southern Conference Tournament title and an NCAA Regional tournament appearance.  She led the team in 2010 with a 2.72 ERA in 165.0 innings pitched while finishing with a 17-7 record in 25 appearances.  Lauren had 110 strikeouts and held opponents to a .280 batting average.  She notched 10 complete games, including three complete-game shutouts.
