Junior Running Back Doesn’t Allow Size to Slow Him Down

Chance Gray slays gridiron opponents on Friday nights, regardless of their size.

National Scouting Report works with prospects at all degrees of ability, size, speed and strength.  As long as they have the talent play at some college level, we can be of enormous help in getting their names and profiles into the hands of hundreds of college coaches for evaluations while assisting them in going throught the recruiiting process, step-by-step.

It is not uncommon for us to represent and promote stars and role players, starters and back-ups, record-setters and the solid, everyman athlete.  Regardless of their physical makeup and attributes, if an athlete has the skills, and grades, to participate in college athletics, we can be the catalyst to wonderful things happening in their lives.

Being undersized is an Albatross around the necks of many high school athletes, but not to Chance Gray of Concordia Lutheran High in Tomball, Tex., a suburb of Houston.  You see, Chance has figured out how to overcome his, shall we say, shortcoming, by putting up the type of numbers college football coaches find impossible to ignore.

But, Chance had no way of letting coaches know that he existed, much less was running wild with the football every Friday night for a private high school near Houston.  So, he took matters into his own hands.   He acted on his wish to be known.

National Scouting Report veteran licensee and scout, Alan Driggers, Corpus Christi Area Director, was contacted by Chance through this very source, the NSR Weekly.  Chance was receiving the newsletter, printed a cop and took it to his parents.  They then contacted NSR and asked for a free in-home interview and evaluation.  Alan obliged and discovered one of the most well-rounded young athletes that he had ever encountered.

When we asked Alan why he decided to sign Chance to an NSR Elite Program, he said, “Chance is a terrific kid and very, very mature.  He is in control of his recruiting process.  When I went to their home for the first time, he came out to the drive way and met me and introduced himself and said he was excited and ready to get started.  He is a little undersized on paper, but has huge heart and work ethic.  You can’t out work him.  He would be a great wing back or slot receiver at the next level.”

Although a prodigious running back, Chance had not heard from a single college football program.  However, once NSR began to promote Chance to colleges around the country, Chance started hearing from interested programs right away and  to date he is regularly hearing from 25 coaches.

With 1807 yards rushing in the fall of 2010, Chance averaged 11.22 yards per carry, outstanding in any league.  He also ran for 21 rushing scores and had 11 receptions for 185 yards (17.0 avg.) with three 3 TDs.  He was named District MVP and led the team to the state playoff semi-final round.  He runs a 4.47, 40-yard dash and 4.21 in the pro shuttle.  Put that athletic talent together with a 4.5 GPA and you have what at NSR we call the quintessential high school prospect.  He has the athletic stats and academic resume to open tons of doors.
