Unethical agents will be lying low in Texas from now on.

Cowboy hats off to the great state of Texas.  Word has come down that Texas is taking the lead by imposing tougher penalties on professional agents who prey on college student-athletes by luring them with cash, trips and other illegal benefits.  With athletes’ NCAA eligibility threatened by scouts’ unethical antics, the Texas state legislature apparently felt that it was time to clamp down on individuals who ignored current, less severe, laws on the books for a bigger pay day down the road in the form of their clients’ lucrative pro sports contracts.   The updated legislation means that unethical conduct could result in an agent facing felony charges and up to 10 years in the slammer.  It’s about time, so to speak.
