Nothing in sports touches National Signing Day for the overall excitement it generates across America.  And this past week has been all about NSD.  Alumni and fans of every age want to know the answer to a simple question:  “Who did we sign?”  Not even the Super Bowl can equal the intensity of this crucial 24 hours which can forge the fortunes of so many NCAA DI and DII college football programs.  There’s been talk of introducing an early signing day in the fall for football, but we think not.  The frenzy which is part of NSD is simply waaaay too much fun to split into two parts.  For countless weeks leading up to this seminal moment in their lives, high school football players (not to mention soccer, field hockey, track & field, cross country and men’s water polo recruits) have been waiting breathlessly for the offer of their lives or deliberating which opportunity will best help them to achieve their ultimate athletic and academic goals.  Sleepless nights have been the norm for coaches, fans, recruits and their parents, but all that anxiety ends this week as kids can at last make their decisions and we can all get back to our ho-hum lives…and get geared up for March Madness.
