If we’ve learned anything from this year’s NCAA Division I men’s basketball tournament, it is that the term Mid-major Program is a thing of the past. Up and down the March Madness bracket spectrum, “smaller” schools have run roughshod over their bigger brothers. The Richmond’s, VCU’s, George Mason’s, Butler’s, Gonzaga’s and the like are consistently advancing deep into the tournament whilst sending the message that they are indeed here to stay. Moreover, the parity which has infiltrated the men’s game will no longer allow Power Conferences, such as the BIG EAST, to dominate future bracket spots as they did this year with a gaudy 11 teams. It’s become apparent that the talent depth has trickled down and as tough as it may be to observe some of the storied programs bite the hardwood, for the die hard basketball fan it is a whole bunch of fun to watch.  VCU and Butler in the Final Four?  No prob.
