Matthew LePoint can throw the rock and college coaches are noticing.

LaPoint can bring the heat, but he also has a deadly change-up and effective slider.
LaPoint can bring the heat, but he also has a deadly change-up and effective slider.

The 6-foot-one, 195-pound right-hander consistently rings the bell in the mid-80’s and recently hit 90 at the Florida Baseball Ranch in Plant City, Florida. Florida Baseball Ranch is a well-regarded facility where Matt is learning, among other key things, how to more effectively engage his lower half. You can bet that more 90’s are on the way.

A three-time All-Area selection at Port Charlotte High School in Punta Gorda, Florida, Matt was named All-Area Player of the Year following an outstanding junior campaign in which he had a 6-2 record while posting a 1.85 ERA. That came on the coattails of a no-no he threw in the state playoffs his sophomore year.

Sporting a 3.2 GPA, LePoint brings it in the classroom as well.

All that is good news to a number of interested NCAA Division I programs knocking on his door.

Said LePoint, “I am never satisfied and continually strive to improve. I am currently enrolled at the Florida Baseball Ranch learning how to improve on my delivery. As a result, the velocity of my fastball has increased and I am learning how to pitch even better. I am committed to playing college baseball and I look forward to the opportunity to prove myself at the next level.”

Matt’s NSR scout, Chris Hunt, is a strong believer in the young pitcher, too.

“There is no question in my mind that Matt will be successful at the college level. He is a very hard worker and is an intense competitor on the mound. Several D-I schools have already been in touch with him and as his velocity hits 90 MPH more consistently, others will get in line, too,” exclaimed Hunt.

The recruiting process is now in full swing for this young man. National Scouting Report has provided the recruiting expertise for LaPoint. NSR scout, Chris Hunt, is getting this young man plenty of college coach looks. Parents should get their athletes evaluated by an expert.
