Sooner Captain Putting Up Heisman-like Stats

Landry Jones

While much of the attention this football season has been focused on Stanford signal caller Andrew Luck, former NSR prospect Landry Jones, a two-year starter for the Oklahoma Sooners, has once again been posting impressive stats.  With a 164.87 passing efficiency rating, Landry has completed 111 of his 155 passing attempts for a total yardage figure of 1,447 while connecting on ten scores and throwing five INT’s for an average of 361.8 yards per game.  The New Mexico native will encounter his toughest test to date this Saturday when the Sooners take on Red River rival Texas.

Meanwhile, in comparison, Luck’s season has been equally impressive although falling behind Landry in total passing yards.  Also after four contests, Luck has completed 80 of 112 attempts for 1.013 yards and a 178.0  passing efficiency with eleven TD’s and only one interception.  He’s averaging 253.2 yards per game through the air.

For Landry to get Heisman consideration, OU will most likely have to run the table and win the Big 12 title game.  And, he is also facing competition from not only Luck, the preseason favorite, but also from three other quality quarterbacks, each of which is having superlative seasons:  Boise State’s Kellen Moore, Wisconsin’s Russell Wilson and Baylor’s Robert Griffin, not to mention Alabama’s star running back, Trent Richardson, statistical leader of a potent Crimson Tide running attack.
