Matthew Barnes

Our Male Athlete of the Day possesses two stats which stand out from his peers – a 3.7 GPA and 4.5, 40-yard speed.  Matthew Barnes is an accomplished, all-around performer on the gridiron at Groesbeck High School in Groesbeck, Texas.  The 6’3″, 220-pounder earned several key post season honors as a junior last season including being named All-District Utility Player and First Team Supercntex.  His NSR scout, Chris Taylor who played at Texas A&M and in the NFL knows something about what it takes to get to the next level.  In his scouting report on Matthew, Chris says, “Matthew Barnes is a very gifted student athlete. He has great size and speed that creates matchup problems for any defense. His work ethic in the classroom and on the playing field makes him a coach’s dream. Matthew is a student of the game and takes every opportunity to learn from situations that may come up during a game. He has strong support from a loving family that will do anything necessary to make sure Matthew earns a college degree. This young man is filled with dedication and passion for his family, school work, and football. Because of his love for football, he will be successful in any situation he is placed in on the field. I am honored to have the opportunity to work with a young man of such high character and moral standing.”  In his personal essay, Matthew addresses college coaches when he says, “I’m a student of the game and look forward to getting better in each and every way. I realize that it is going to take a lot of blood, sweat, and tears for me to get to where I’m trying to go in life, but I am willing to put in the effort to do whatever it takes to achieve my goals. I am the type of person that hates to lose, but will learn from a loss and do whatever I can to not let in happen again.”
