A 6’0″ 240-pound offensive lineman from North Canton Hoover High School in Canton, Ohio, David “Rock” Johnson has been selected as our Male Athlete of the Day. He plans a Business major in college. Rock’s scouting report reveals his versatility: “Offensive lineman who can play any position on the line. Currently playing center and left guard. Physical and mental maturity. Knows assignments and gets the job done. Just wants to hit someone. Quick feet and hands, strong punch. Gets good separation. Effective pulling guard. Likes to trap and hit people in the secondary. Very good at picking up blitzes. Also a long snapper.” In his essay to college coaches he says, “I show through my actions one hundred percent commitment to the team and to the mission of winning. Sports have taught me the value of winning and being competitive. Competitiveness affects my daily life in that I want and expect to be the very best. In fact, I love to win and I hate to lose. Excellence is achieved when no one is looking, so I drive myself whether at practice or in the weight room whether coaches or teammates are paying attention. I spend extra time and effort with private instruction and a personal trainer as I maximize my speed and agility, hitting and catching, in order to help me achieve competitive excellence.”
