Tricia Nystrom

Our Female Athlete of the Day, Tricia Nystrom, is the quintessential NSR student-athlete who stars on the volleyball court and in the classroom.  She carries an impressive 3.53 GPA at Aloha High School in Aloha, Oregon.  She plans to major in Anthropology.  Her high school coach, Kelly Scholl, says it all when she describes this exceptional young woman, “I have loved coaching her! She works hard 100% day in/day out. Tricia is versatile and has learned to play different positions quickly. She has a nice reach on the ball and is a good attacker. Her block touch is limited, but she performs well as a hitter and even as a back row player, has a great feel for the ball and will be able to play all around for the high school team this year.  As a very hardworking, versatile 6’1″ player that is also a great student, she will be a great team player for a college program.”  Her NSR scout and former college coach, Craig Stanger, says, “Tricia is a very dedicated hard worker and demonstrates strong competitive drive. A terrific athlete, she previously played soccer and softball, before finding a love for volleyball as she entered high school.  Although relatively new to the game, she is very coachable and capable of applying new techniques and has become a key player for her high school team in a short time.  Tricia is multi-sport athlete (track) that is just scratching the surface and has a tremendous upside.  With her determination,  excellent study habits and good gpa (3.5),  Tricia will be able to compete well at the collegiate level.”  Her essay to college coaches offers a window into how Tricia thinks and her goals when she says, “I can’t imagine myself not playing volleyball in college. I’ve grown as an athlete and as an individual while playing volleyball and I plan on continuing to grow as a person! I absolutely love the game and I spend most of my time either at practice, tournaments, or working out. During this season, I also started meeting with a personal trainer to work on my speed and agility. When I’m not focused on volleyball, I’m either doing school work, or at track practice. I run hurdles for Aloha and it’s helped me become a more-rounded athlete. I really believe that attitude is everything, so I’m constantly trying to bring my teammates up and make energy around me better! You will not regret having me on your team, and I’ll prove it.”
