Rachel Atchison

If you are a basketball fan and want to see a hoops ball hawk, check out our Female Athlete of the Day, Rachel Atchison, from East Troy High School in Troy, Wisconsin.  Her stats prove that she is to be reckoned with on both ends of the floor.  Following her junior year, Rachel pulled in some top honors being named to the 2nd-Team Wisconsin State Journal Division 3 All-Area, 1st-Team Rock Valley All-Conference and being included in the prestigious Top 50 Juniors To Watch, from wissports.net. Her NSR scout, Jason Lauren, nails her considerable talents in his scouting report:  “Athletic. Solid speed and endurance. Very good 3-point shooter (made 61 3-pointers as junior). Great range. Can hit 3s from 2-3 feet beyond arc. Most shots are off passes. Uses picks effectively to get open to shoot 3-pointers. Uses crossover to create own space. Shooting guard. Likes the ball in her hands in clutch situations. Sees court well and finds open teammates cutting and in the post. Solid ball handler, but better with right. Great attitude. Most experience is with 4 out-1 in offense. Gets in opponent’s face on defense and not afraid of contact. Knack for getting steals (2.3 per game as junior). Tough. Usually first one down court in transition to receive passes for layups.”  To college coaches, Rachel declares, “Working hard has helped me achieve my goals and maintain focus. I work hard in everything I do, because in the end, it all pays off. I competed in track for the first time this past high school season. Working hard and practicing every day was important to achieving the milestones and goals I set out to accomplish at the beginning of the season. As a result of my hard work, I broke a seven-year standing school record in the open 800 and finished ninth at the state meet in Lacrosse, Wis.      These are traits that will continue to positively impact my life in college and beyond. Confidence will help me stay focused on meeting my academic and basketball goals. It will also generate opportunities toward achieving my career goals.”
