Carson High Standout Gets Chance Through NSR

Kendra Krupp, from Carson City, Nevada, worked hard to get in the starting lineup as the volleyball setter at Carson High School. Lots of practice and long hours paid off. She accomplished her goal as a sophmore in 2008 and became a mainstay on the Senators’ team through her senior season. But, Kendra wanted more. She wanted to play volleyball in college.

Kendra will cross the country to play for Methodist University in North Carolina.

But, as with many deserving high school student-athletes, Kendra wasn’t getting the kind of attention she really needed to get known and to be recruited.  Actually, no colleges were calling.  Although she was a solid student and athlete, her athletic road appeared to be ending.  She needed help.   Enter Rocco Pelino.

“I went through National Scouting Report and my scout, Rocco Pelino (NSR Nevada State Director), made sure that video and brochures were sent to colleges around the country,” Krupp said.  “That’s when Methodist University (NC) got in touch with me.”

In an interview with her local newspaper, Kendra said, “I’ve worked really hard for this since I was in seventh grade,” Krupp said. “I knew I wanted to play college volleyball.”

As she and the Methodist coach began to communicate more, Kendra became extremely interested in the school and volleyball program.  So much so that she traveled the nearly 3,000 miles across the country to Fayetteville, NC, for a visit.  When she set foot on the campus, Kendra knew right away that Methodist was the right place for her.  It all seemed to fit – athletically, academically, environment, socially, it was all there.  She and the coach and campus bonded right away.

“They already have a setter there who is a junior, and basically, I’ll be learning from her next year. And it looks like I will still be able to come in and at least share time my freshman year,” Krupp said.  An NCAA Division III program, Methodist plays in the USA South Athletic Conference where some of the most competitive DIII.
