NCAA 8

The NCAA unceremoniously launched its new recruiting rules today.

Aug. 1 is the start date each year for the implementation of new rules in all three NCAA divisions.

This year we are seeing a larger number — 26 to be exact — of new Division I rules than in years past. We can attribute that to the newfound autonomy which the Big Five conferences are enjoying. Most of the new rules are more tweaks than anything, but they remain important to families trying to navigate what is a very complex and confusing ordeal.

To outline all the changes would be more involved than we have room for in this blog, but National Scouting Report scouts worldwide are being updated on the shifts, upgrades and brakes being placed on NCAA and NAIA members.

At our upcoming NSR annual meeting, scouts will be introduced to each rule with full explanations regarding how the rule came about, why it was adopted or changed, and the impact it will have on NSR prospects and potential prospects. This enables our scouts to maintain their status as experts in college recruiting.

No other college scouting organization has that kind of thorough instruction on recruiting rules. Moreover, NSR publishes daily NCAA and NAIA rules updates for scouts that they can access through an internal newsletter. That constant flow of information, along with a company rules compliance officer, sets NSR apart from other recruiting organizations.

When you see an NSR scout, you can be assured that she or he has been introduced to all NCAA rules which apply to the recruiting of your child. They receive this vital information during their initial orientation and training as well as on a daily basis.

As a parent recently told me during a phone conversation about the NCAA Eligibility Center: “It was worth it to me just to have our scout available to help us with the rules and to shepherd us through the process. We could not have gotten that from anyone else.”

Do you have a college recruiting question? There is probably an NSR scout near you to promptly provide an answer.
