Jones Surpasses Performances of past Heisman Winners Bradford and White

Following two weeks of top-ranked teams being knocked off (See Alabama and Ohio State) their lofty perches, the Oklahoma Sooners blasted their way to the top spot of the initial 2010 BCS football poll by blowing out conference rival Iowa State 52-0 on Saturday in Norman, OK,  behind two individual record-setting performances, including one by former NSR prospect Landry Jones.

Landry had the kind of day throwing the football which most signal callers can only dream about when he completed a remarkable 88.2 percent of his passes going 30 of 34 with two TD’s and no interceptions.  When you think about it, that is an enormous accomplishment.  Over the past seven years the Sooners have produced two Heisman Trophy winners who were quarterbacks, Sam Bradford in 2008 and Jason White in 2003, yet neither was able to put together a single day of passing accuracy like Jones did against the Cyclones on Saturday.

Meanwhile, DeMarco Murray ran for 112 yards and two touchdowns to surpass 1969 Heisman Trophy winner Steve Owens’ record of 57 touchdowns in his OU career while making his own bid for the most valued post season honor in college football.
