A recently released movie offers the perfect quote for high school prospects.

In the film “Deep Water Horizon,” the man in charge of the rig was contentiously talking to BP executives. They had decided to skip an integral part of the pre-drilling process because the project was running behind schedule and costing the company millions of dollars.

When asked if they had approved of skipping the critical step, the execs argued that everything would be fine, offering questionable evidence to back up their shaky claim.

It was then that the rig manager said, “Gentlemen, wishing is not a tactic.”

Wishing for a scholarship is not a tactic that works in recruiting.

At NSR, we see parents and prospects who wish their way through the recruiting process. As a result, they often find themselves without a scholarship offer.

How this wishing logic makes sense to people is beyond me, even with overwhelming evidence shouting that their odds of success are nearly impossible. Only about five in 100 high school athletes, generally speaking, go on to play college sports on an athletic scholarship.

It makes more sense, common sense, actually, to undertake tactics which would substantially improve the chances of securing offers from college coaches. Yet, in the face of this more sound logic, families persist in staying on a course which time and again has proved to reap few, if any, rewards.

Problems are constantly present in life, but you cannot wish a broken down car repaired, a faulty refrigerator to cool or a college coach to present a scholarship offer. You must take action to see these problems through.

NSR has time-tested options for families with a long record of connecting them with college coaches.

Parents, I’ll venture that what you want is for your athlete to have a fair chance. Wishing does not present him or her with a fair chance.

Taking action to improve his or her odds through a full promotional program is what you may need to go from wishing to reality. Since 1980, NSR has been the difference maker for high school athletes and families that want to play in college. Why? NSR has the relationships with the college coaches that allow the NSR athletes to be seen by these coaches. NSR does not “wish” for athletes to get recruited. NSR is the reason athletes get recruited.
