No Question, Real Scouting Trumps Telemarketing Approach

Real Scout

We’ve said it before, but it always bears repeating:  a scouting organization should have actual scouts on the ground evaluating talent.  NSR is proud to have pioneered the high school scouting business 31 years ago in 1980.  Since then, NSR has never wavered from its focus on the basics — find and attend local and regional high school-level sports events, evaluate talent firsthand, interview prospects in person and only offer our guidance to those deserving to move on to the college athletic ranks.  It is more than a business model.  It is the correct and very best way to recognize legitimate college prospects and promote them to college coaches.  Any college coach will confirm this.

NSR has remained steadfast to this formula and as a result has created a culture which revolves around the prospects, not around quotas.  Our scouts manage their own territories.  They live there.  They drive to the schools and complexes.  Then, they do something which is rare — they actually scout the prospects.  If you are approached by an NSR scout, it will be after having been personally evaluated by that scout.  Chances are that if you are contacted by any other scouting service in the U.S. that they have not seen you perform, but instead have gotten your name from a tournament roster book or online team Web site.  We call them “cubicle counselors.”  They are former college athletes or coaches who have been assigned a desk, a phone and a list of names with phone numbers.

Unreal scout or "cubicle counselor."

Each “counselor” has a quota to make each day or week.  (NSR scouts have no mandated weekly or monthly quotas.)  Their goal is not really to help you reach your goal of securing a scholarship offer, but to chalk up another sale.  They cannot advance in the company until they meet certain quotas.  They will never come to see you play.   They will never come to your home.  They will, however, take your money without reservation.  You do not have to meet any standards except that your check will not bounce or your credit card will clear.  It’s that simple.  And what do you get?  A Web site and few promotional mailings.  You do not get NSR’s proven, comprehensive, promotional program which continually puts your profile in the hands of college coaches and you certainly do not get a scout who knows you well and can talk to college coaches about you as an athlete, scholar and person.

We are proud of how we do business and the people on our team.  Our scouts are highly trained in scouting, not telemarketing.  If you want a telemarketer to represent you to college coaches, call the “cubicle counselors.”  They’ll be happy to take your money.  However, if you want a scout who knows you personally and can help you go through recruiting step-by-step, call NSR.
