Donning a College Jersey is a Goal Worth Fighting For

The Influence of That Moment is Far-reaching Beyond Expectations

For high school prospects, it is something truly extraordinary to strive for which nearly always escapes the attention of close advisors, coaches and other mentors. It is too frequently a forgotten moment in time which essentially changes a person’s life in many ways.

Thousands upon thousands of high school athletes that have never had the opportunity to extend their careers to the college level will also never understand the significance of this moment. But, for the fortunate few, slipping their heads through that top inescapably alters their lives forever. From that moment forward, no one can take that experience away from them. The never-will-be’s in the grandstands, on the sidelines, in the press booth, listening on the airwaves or watching from their televisions, phones, PC’s or other devices do not, nor will they ever, feel the intensity that singular experience brings.  They will never be able to comprehend the grip it has on the wearer’s psyche for as long as he or she lives.  It is that powerful.

Having the privilege of wearing a college jersey offers the athlete a unique tie to all others who wore, or will wear, those colors for that school. It connects them to every alumnus, coach and fan in a way no one else can appreciate. It places one in a special and honored place to virtually anyone connected with the college and, for that matter, to other colleges, too. In truth, “I played there,” carries more weight than, “I went there.”

Donning a college’s jersey opens doors for years to come, professionally and personally. It raises one’s value in society. It commands a degree of respect others cannot possibly enjoy. And, it creates an uncommon life experience which influences that person’s persona, decisions, expectations and outcomes.  Indeed, there is nothing like it.
