Brendan Kennedy knows what it’s like to earn his\u00a0place in a crowd.\u00a0 The youngest of eight children, Kennedy learned quickly that\u00a0being part of a big family\u00a0meant working hard for what he wanted.\u00a0 It also taught him the importance of being respectful of others and their aspirations, attributes which have served him well as a National Scouting Report area director in Maine,\u00a0New Hampshire\u00a0and Massachusetts.<\/p>\n

That work ethic and approach have made Brendan one of NSR’s most successful scouts heading into his third year on the job.\u00a0 Highly regarded for enrolling qualified student-athletes and helping to place them in college, Kennedy was recently named one of three NSR scouts who will travel to London next month to train new scouts there.<\/p>\n

“I think it will be a great experience,” Kennedy said.\u00a0 “I have never been to London, so I am looking forward to it.\u00a0 To be a part of NSR’s international expansion is something I will always remember and treasure.”<\/p>\n

A former all-conference football player and all-state catcher at Ridgefield (Conn.) High School, Kennedy was recruited to play baseball at Ball State University in Muncie, Ind.\u00a0 He chose the Cardinals over South Carolina and Kent State.\u00a0\u00a0Knee problems shortened his collegiate career, so he became an assistant baseball coach at Muncie Central\u00a0High\u00a0School while\u00a0working toward his bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science.<\/p>\n

“Muncie Central was the school that Hickory defeated for\u00a0the state basketball title in the movie, Hoosiers,” Kennedy noted. “That’s a cool, little fact that I like to tell people. It gave me the chance to work with high school athletes which is something I’ve continued to do as an adult.”<\/p>\n

Following college, Kennedy worked in healthcare for four years, but couldn’t ignore his desire to help young people.\u00a0 He made the decision to become a teacher and coach, both of which he did for 12 years in\u00a0Connecticut until he discovered NSR.<\/p>\n

“I researched NSR on the Internet for some time before applying,” he said.\u00a0 What he found was\u00a0a company that seemed to\u00a0match what he was looking to do next in his professional career.<\/p>\n

Kennedy, 40, lives with his wife, Desiree, and two children, Gina and Jordan, in Kennebunk, Maine, a small town on the coast famous as the summer home of former President George H. Bush and his wife, Barbara.\u00a0 Gina, 22, recently graduated from the University of New England.\u00a0 Jordan, 12, attends middle school.<\/p>\n

“My daughter [Gina] was a standout lacrosse player,” Kennedy explained.\u00a0 “We used another company to get help with her exposure and it was a horrible experience.\u00a0 When I learned about NSR, I liked that they did it the right way.\u00a0 That was very important to me.”<\/p>\n

Since joining National Scouting Report in 2013, Kennedy has made friendships he never would have otherwise had.\u00a0 Traveling to high schools and weekend tournaments have put him in the middle of the athletic scenes in Maine and Massachusetts.\u00a0 He scouts\u00a0various sports with equal enthusiasm, but tends to gravitate toward lacrosse, softball and baseball.<\/p>\n

“I have a passion for sports and helping kids, so my job is perfect,” he said. “I had coached for many years, so it was another way [for me] to stay in the game.”<\/p>\n
