{"id":8058,"date":"2015-10-06T04:30:07","date_gmt":"2015-10-06T09:30:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nsr-inc.com\/scouting-news\/?p=8058"},"modified":"2015-10-05T14:59:26","modified_gmt":"2015-10-05T19:59:26","slug":"five-words-that-kill-a-prospects-chances","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nsr-inc.com\/scouting-news\/five-words-that-kill-a-prospects-chances\/","title":{"rendered":"Five words that kill a college prospect&#8217;s chances"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_7483\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7483\" style=\"width: 259px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nsr-inc.com\/scouting-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Georgi-Salant-2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-7483\" src=\"\/\/www.nsr-inc.com\/scouting-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Georgi-Salant-2.png\" alt=\"Former NSR prospect, Georgi Salant, a two-time NCAA All-America, went on to earn a DIII individual golf title.\" width=\"269\" height=\"187\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-7483\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Former NSR prospect Georgi Salant, a two-time NCAA All-America, went on to earn a D-III individual golf title.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In this, the Golden Era of athletic recruiting, college coaches may as well be in a candy store that stocks only their favorite chocolate bar.\u00a0 They&#8217;ve never had it so good.\u00a0 Coaches are inundated with info from camps, clinics, combines, showcases, tournaments, emails, texts\u00a0and snail mail.\u00a0\u00a0It is impossible for them to cover it all and to consider every prospect.<\/p>\n<p>All this makes picking only low fruit awfully tempting.\u00a0 Out of necessity, some coaches go that route.\u00a0 There simply is not enough time coupled with\u00a0manpower in the form of assistant coaches.\u00a0 They do what they have to do and get by the best they can given their circumstances.<\/p>\n<p>A majority of head coaches, however, do have assistants.\u00a0 Over the years\u00a0many have\u00a0developed systems for recognizing and selecting recruits that work well for their programs.\u00a0 Additionally, because of\u00a0the\u00a0surge in the number of prospects available to them,\u00a0most coaches today enjoy the luxury of climbing the tree a\u00a0good bit higher in search of even\u00a0more fruit from which to\u00a0select.\u00a0 That gives coaches more choices along\u00a0with the liberty of\u00a0pushing aside the prospects who fail to meet their\u00a0basic criteria.<\/p>\n<p>In the 35-plus\u00a0years that National Scouting Report\u00a0has worked hand-in-hand with college coaches, our on-the-ground team of scouts has developed meaningful and lasting relationships with\u00a0hundreds of college coaches.\u00a0 Our scouts are frequent guests in their offices.\u00a0 They discuss scouting, rules, recruiting and recruits.\u00a0 As a result,\u00a0we&#8217;ve taught our future scouts about the current college coach culture and how college recruiting really works.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a culture in which\u00a0coaches are observing far more and better individual\u00a0student-athletes than they ever have before.\u00a0\u00a0 The basket is overflowing.<\/p>\n<p>The downside?\u00a0 It&#8217;s\u00a0also a culture\u00a0in which a coach can dispose of a promising\u00a0prospect on the spot without so much as a nod and wave.<\/p>\n<p>At NSR, we&#8217;ve compiled\u00a0a list of\u00a0the words which\u00a0kill a prospect&#8217;s chances of being recruited.\u00a0\u00a0They are the five words\u00a0prospects never want to hear a college coach use when describing them:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Selfish<\/li>\n<li>Lazy<\/li>\n<li>Disrespectful<\/li>\n<li>Irresponsible<\/li>\n<li>Negative<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In this, the Golden Era of athletic recruiting, college coaches may as well be in a candy store that stocks only their favorite chocolate bar.\u00a0 They&#8217;ve never had it so good.\u00a0 Coaches are inundated with info from camps, clinics, combines, showcases, tournaments, emails, texts\u00a0and snail mail.\u00a0\u00a0It is impossible for them to cover it all and &#8230;
