With Boulder leading 28-0 in the third quarter, Braymiller broke through the line unblocked, threw his arms up in the air and blocked the punt.

But that’s only half the story.

After Braymiller blocked the punt, the ball got stuck between his arms and stomach. With nobody between him and the end zone, the 6-foot-1, 190-pound sophomore raced 30 yards untouched for a touchdown, giving Boulder an insurmountable 35-0 lead.

Happy birthday, Jack!

“It was the craziest thing,” Braymiller recalled. “Nobody blocked me. I just ran in there untouched. I knew I blocked the punt, but I couldn’t believe where the ball ended up. Once I realized it, I just took off.”

The remarkable punt return made national news.

Braymiller’s dad posted the Hudl video link on Twitter. MaxPreps picked it up. Within a week, the video received more than 10,000 page views. USA Today also ran a short story.

“I was amazed [the video] was so popular,” Braymiller said. “I was a [national] celebrity for a few days.”

Braymiller already was well-known around school. Not only does he play outside linebacker on the varsity football team, he’s also a standout swimmer. Last year, he was the only Boulder High School freshman to qualify for the Colorado State Swimming Championships, clocking a 1:03 in the 100-yard breaststroke. What’s more, he plays tenor saxophone in the band and sports a 3.5 grade-point average in the classroom.

“Football is my focus,” Braymiller said. “I don’t swim during football season. I practice saxophone whenever I can.”

Braymiller enrolled with NSR over the summer. He was discovered by Colorado scout Bill Sheerin, a former three-time All-America noseguard at Ithaca (N.Y.) College and longtime football coach.

“I thought joining NSR would be a good way to get my name out there,” Braymiller said. “My profile was just posted before the start of the school year.”

NSR recently uploaded the video of Braymiller’s remarkable punt return, which he hopes catches the attention of college coaches.

“I hope they start recruiting me,” Braymiller said. “Hopefully, they will see all of my other plays and like them, too.”

National Scouting Report football prospect Jack Braymiller received an early birthday present last month.
