{"id":7430,"date":"2014-01-27T10:49:38","date_gmt":"2014-01-27T16:49:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nsr-inc.com\/blog\/?p=7430"},"modified":"2014-01-29T10:13:58","modified_gmt":"2014-01-29T16:13:58","slug":"nsr-salutes-the-second-tier-athletes-that-create-the-foundation-for-more-talented-athletes-to-garner-the-attention-and-praise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nsr-inc.com\/scouting-news\/nsr-salutes-the-second-tier-athletes-that-create-the-foundation-for-more-talented-athletes-to-garner-the-attention-and-praise\/","title":{"rendered":"NSR salutes the second-tier athletes that create the foundation for more talented athletes to garner the attention and praise"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_5488\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5488\" style=\"width: 279px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/nsr-inc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Tane-Meek-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5488\" alt=\"NSR scouts relish finding high school athletes that even in support roles have proved that they, too, have what it takes to be college athletes.\" src=\"\/\/nsr-inc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Tane-Meek-3.jpg\" width=\"289\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5488\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">NSR scouts relish finding high school athletes that even in support roles have proved that they, too, have what it takes to be college athletes.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The spotlight always shines on our sports stars. \u00a0This coming weekend&#8217;s Super Bowl and the hype surrounding it personifies the way Americans go about deifying those at the top.\u00a0 But a closer view of the athletes in support roles at every level of athletics makes us realize that they are the ones providing the infrastructure on which stars rely.<\/p>\n<p>High school sports is no different from the pros.\u00a0 Headlines\u00a0home in on the upper crust, the athletes that get the attention and credit for victories and winning seasons.\u00a0 Yet, without the effort and dedication of mid-level athletes, where would the upper echelon find\u00a0themselves?\u00a0 Day after day the also-rans show up for practice, work diligently under the radar, and do their invaluable part to support those that bask in the bright lights of stardom.<\/p>\n<p>At NSR, we believe it is those athletes that will never be\u00a0featured in online profiles, nor see their pictures prominently\u00a0placed in articles, that deserve our admiration in equal measure.\u00a0 Yet, they are too often ignored and their contributions overlooked.\u00a0 Take the second\u00a0and third\u00a0team athletes out of the\u00a0equation and\u00a0what remains is\u00a0no foundation or podium\u00a0on which the stars may stand.\u00a0 These unheralded athletes give far more than they can ever expect to receive in return.\u00a0 They\u00a0miss as many classes, show up every day, sit in on team meetings,\u00a0learn the plays, give 100 percent, take the hard licks, go home with bruises and hear all the pre-game and halftime speeches as the first-teamers.\u00a0 Yet, they simply aren&#8217;t appreciated or given their due respect.\u00a0It&#8217;s a sad, but true, commentary which we at NSR\u00a0have worked for\u00a034 years to correct.<\/p>\n<p>You see, these athletes have dreams, too.\u00a0 Many of them want to have the same opportunity to play at the next level.\u00a0 And, surprisingly to some, they actually can be college athletes.\u00a0 They may not have the abilities to play at the highest level, but they do have the skills, grades, character and family support which college coaches treasure.\u00a0 We believe that they deserve their shot at the gold ring.\u00a0 That&#8217;s why nearly 75 percent of all NSR athletes go on to compete at the NCAA DII, DIII, NAIA and JUCO levels.\u00a0 And that&#8217;s the reason that when we scout high school, club or travel teams that our scouts don&#8217;t merely attend contests to admire the stars, but to find those athletes that make the stars look great.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The spotlight always shines on our sports stars. \u00a0This coming weekend&#8217;s Super Bowl and the hype surrounding it personifies the way Americans go about deifying those at the top.\u00a0 But a closer view of the athletes in support roles at every level of athletics makes us realize that they are the ones providing the infrastructure &#8230;
