If you really want to play college sports, select a service that has real scouts that can actually tell coaches about you, not cubicle counselors that never see you play and know nothing about you as a person or athlete.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Ten years ago, college coaches were just getting computers installed in their offices.\u00a0 Emails were a novelty.\u00a0 Digitized videos were a faraway thought.\u00a0 Personal Web sites were emerging technology.\u00a0 Smart phones and tablets?\u00a0 Non-existent.\u00a0 But that was then, as they say.<\/p>\n

Today coaches can link to prospects and their information more\u00a0readily than ever.\u00a0 Athletes’ profiles seem to be everywhere online.\u00a0 As a result, coaches are being overrun by\u00a0incoming data and it’s not all good, reliable stuff.\u00a0\u00a0Not by a long shot.<\/p>\n

Sifting through it all has become a genuine pain for coaches and as a result many prospects are still being overlooked as coaches have become numb to the digital onslaught.\u00a0\u00a0What\u00a0yesterday\u00a0were\u00a0thought\u00a0to be recruiting advantages\u00a0both on the coaches’ and prospects’ ends\u00a0are now burdensome, confusing and terribly unmanageable.<\/p>\n

So, what’s a\u00a0high school prospect\u00a0to do?\u00a0\u00a0Here are some solid suggestions:<\/p>\n

  1. Avoid free\u00a0recruiting sites:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0These are one way streets leading to nowhere.\u00a0 Coaches do not\u00a0go to these sites because it is too difficult to find legit, qualified athletes.<\/li>\n
  2. Avoid open-enrollment\u00a0companies:<\/strong>\u00a0 If you are paying to\u00a0have your profile and video on a scouting service site without having been scouted in person or had you video evaluated by a trained college scout, you are throwing\u00a0good money after bad.\u00a0\u00a0Case in point:\u00a0 college football\u00a0coaches at the National Football Coaches\u00a0Association Convention in\u00a0Nashville this past February, college coaches told us that they had stopped by\u00a0our competitor’s booth\u00a0to\u00a0request being taken off their email list because a large majority of the athletes\u00a0the coaches\u00a0were getting info on were not qualified or screened for ability and it was a waste of their\u00a0time\u00a0to get the info,\u00a0much less taking up\u00a0valuable time perusing the info.\u00a0 (We\u00a0call these companies Cubicle Counselors.)<\/li>\n
  3. Select a scouting service that actually scouts you:\u00a0<\/strong> If you want your profile info to be opened by a college coach, select a service that really scouts and\u00a0that college\u00a0coaches appreciate and respect.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    If you are an aspiring college prospect with the skills, grades, desire and character to be a college athlete, you deserve to be promoted to coaches in the most effective way possible.\u00a0 Choose wisely.\u00a0 Do your homework.\u00a0 Find an organization that can put you in front of college coaches without being surrounded by tons of mediocre talent.\u00a0 That<\/em> is the way to set yourself apart.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
