Our Male Athlete of the Day is a lefthanded pitcher from Westview High School in San Diego, California.\u00a0\u00a0Evan Engelhardt<\/a><\/strong> is a\u00a06’3″, 200-pounder who excels in the classroom as well as on the baseball diamond.\u00a0 He brings a 4.17 GPA to college coaches.\u00a0 Dave Batzer is his NSR scout and in his scouting report on Evan, Dave says, “Evan is the perfect example of\u00a0a student-athlete.\u00a0 With a 4.17 GPA and 2000+ on his SAT’s he is an intelligent pitcher, who pitches not just throws.\u00a0 He currently has four solid pitches including two and four seam fastballs, changeup and a strong 12\/6 curve ball. The combination of his size and 3\/4 arm slot allow him to deliver the ball cleanly to the plate and with minor adjustments he can definately increase his overall speed.\u00a0 He has good command of his location and has the ability to keep hitters guessing.\u00a0 Evan will make a great addition to any high academic program that needs a quality starter with a solid upside potential.”\u00a0\u00a0In\u00a0his essay to college coaches, Evan says, “I\u2019ve always had a craving for knowledge, whether it is in school or out of school. This is why I like to ask lots of questions and try to understand the deeper reasoning behind things. I believe this is an asset in both baseball and personal life. I am deeply committed to my family and my team, voluntarily doing chores around the house, setting up\/cleaning up the field, and keeping the scorebook when I\u2019m not pitching. I am a true student of the game and plan to stay involved long after my playing days are over hopefully as an executive in an MLB franchise. I work hard every day to make myself a better pitcher and look forward to continuing to improve my mechanics, speed and mental approach to the game.\u00a0 I know I will be positive asset to your school both on the field and off.”<\/div>\n
