It’s what happens in the locker rooms that really matters to athletes\u00a0in the end<\/strong><\/p>\n

High school sports offer far more than competition to the athletes.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

There was a time not so long ago when every athlete in a school played almost all the competitive sports the school offered.\u00a0 The athletes were not always great at each\u00a0one so why did they do it?\u00a0 Why did they play second and third sports instead of focusing on just one year round?\u00a0 It’s simple, really.\u00a0 Fun.\u00a0 Companionship.\u00a0 But there’s more, too.<\/p>\n

You still see it in many smaller schools across the country.\u00a0 That is, athletes playing multiple sports.\u00a0 As in days seemingly gone by, these multi-sport\u00a0athletes want to hang with their friends, go through the rigors of practice\u00a0then sweat and toil alongside their buds in games, matches or meets.\u00a0 It’s the camaraderie that draws them more than the competition, in most cases.\u00a0 It’s the reluctance to miss out on the banter, the prodding and it’s the satisfaction of\u00a0helping of one another through tough times.<\/p>\n

And, you cannot minimize the essential importance of the fact that countless memories mount.\u00a0 There is something about what happens in a locker room and on away trips in busses and vans that\u00a0cannot be duplicated hanging out in a parking lot or cruising around\u00a0town.\u00a0\u00a0Sports experiences call on\u00a0every athlete’s base need to not only discover what’s deeper inside themselves, but to get at the\u00a0true heart\u00a0and soul of\u00a0their friends.\u00a0\u00a0They love it.\u00a0\u00a0They need it.\u00a0 And nothing else can match it.<\/p>\n

When\u00a0athletes finally hang it up, the one thing they will consistently say they miss about sports is not\u00a0so much the competition, but\u00a0instead it’s\u00a0their teammates and the bond which\u00a0was welded\u00a0firmly into their beings.\u00a0\u00a0Men and women on high school teams are warriors and they get to experience something which none of their classmates can approach – a deep sense\u00a0of communal attachment.<\/p>\n

Long after the\u00a0final whistles have been blown and\u00a0horns have sounded, athletes fondly recall how high school sports formed their thinking, heightened their appreciation for cooperation, and cemented their\u00a0loyalty to their cohorts.\u00a0\u00a0Those\u00a0remembrances are\u00a0invaluable and last a lifetime.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
