{"id":6839,"date":"2012-11-02T12:42:51","date_gmt":"2012-11-02T12:42:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nsr-inc.com\/blog\/?p=6839"},"modified":"2012-11-02T12:44:26","modified_gmt":"2012-11-02T12:44:26","slug":"college-coach-asks-why-should-i-use-nsr-instead-of-doing-it-myself","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nsr-inc.com\/scouting-news\/college-coach-asks-why-should-i-use-nsr-instead-of-doing-it-myself\/","title":{"rendered":"College coach asks:  There are too many ineffective scouting services, so why should I use NSR?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Note from NCAA coach offers opportunity for clarity in scouting services<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6840\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6840\" style=\"width: 244px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/nsr-inc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Coach-on-phone.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6840\" title=\"Coach on phone\" src=\"\/\/nsr-inc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Coach-on-phone.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"254\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6840\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">At NSR, we scout and enroll the very same prospects that college coaches recruit.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Occasionally we get a note from a college coach wanting to know about our NCAA certification and why NSR is so special as to make him or her want to use our service regularly.\u00a0 See, there are so many scouting services that quality can sometimes be hard to see among all the ruckus surrounding it.\u00a0 In this case, the coach complained that most scouting services send him info on unqualified high school athletes making it a real waste of his time to go through them trying to find one or two legit athletes.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, when this NCAA DII coach asked us to verify our NCAA certification and to give him good reasons why he should\u00a0begin a working relationship with us, it was easy to respond because what we offer\u00a0college coaches is a unique opportunity to evaluate prospects that have been personally scouted and interviewed.\u00a0 But, let the response speak to all that.\u00a0 Here was the coach&#8217;s request and our answer:<\/p>\n<div>\n<div><strong>NCAA Coach:<\/strong>\u00a0 <em>I would want to see proof that it is ok to use your service from the NCAA. There are a lot of scouting services out there. I am not interested in kids that can not make it through my program or are not interested in achieving the same things I am. I have not had great experiences with scouting services. They typically are just pushing kids to programs that should not be there. I usually have better luck finding them on my own. What makes your services different from the other hundred that I keep getting emails from. If you do not have caliber kids then please do not email me anymore. It is a waste of both our time.<\/em><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><strong>NSR:\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0Coach, thank you for the email regarding our service.\u00a0 You raise good questions which we are glad to address so that you\u00a0will become comfortable using National Scouting Report as a viable source for quality prospects.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>As you probably know, the NCAA requires certification in only three sports \u2013 men\u2019s and women\u2019s basketball and football.\u00a0 On September 6, 2012, we received the following email from the NCAA:\u00a0 &#8220;<span style=\"color: #000000;\">All three sports (MBB, WBB and FB) were all approved on August 10. NCAA institutions can access your scouting service by logging into a special link\u00a0which only they can access.&#8221; \u00a0Your compliance officer should have that link for you.<\/span><span style=\"color: #1f497d;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>NSR is different from other scouting services in\u00a0four significant ways:<\/div>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Our scouts:<\/strong>\u00a0 NSR scouts actually scout high school and club events.\u00a0 We are NOT a telemarketing service, nor are we a free online service.\u00a0 Our scouts live and work in their communities.\u00a0 They scout and evaluate talent in their assigned geographical areas.\u00a0 That is different in that nearly all other scouting services never see their client-athletes in person which means that the athletes they bring to you have not been formally scouted or properly interviewed.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Our enrollment qualifications:<\/strong>\u00a0 We are not an open enrollment service which means that we do not accept any and all prospects that want to enroll with us.\u00a0 For a prospect to qualify, he or she must have demonstrated the ability to perform at some level of college athletics.\u00a0 They must have the desire to play at the next level.\u00a0 They must have good to excellent grades and standardized test scores.\u00a0\u00a0 They must be of good character.\u00a0 And, they must have the full emotional and financial support of their families.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Our standards: <\/strong>NSR has been scouting prospects since 1980.\u00a0 We started the scouting service industry 33 years ago.\u00a0 All of our standards are tied to and based upon NCAA rules.\u00a0 We train our scouts on these rules, we demand their compliance and hold them accountable at all times.\u00a0 To accomplish this, we send our scouts daily notes which provide continued education on the NCAA rules as well as other related recruiting issues.\u00a0 Additionally, we have monthly regional conference calls with them as well as a monthly companywide, educational Webinar.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Our advantage:<\/strong>\u00a0 Because our service is free to all college coaches, we are allowed to assist coaches in learning more about the prospects they are interested in recruiting and going the extra mile by arranging upon request unofficial and official visits or serving as a conduit between coaches and prospects during quiet or dead periods.\u00a0 However, we are not permitted to accompany a prospect to an NCAA campus, nor are we allowed to negotiate scholarships on behalf of the family.\u00a0 Finally, we cannot provide you inside info on a prospect which we would not also make known to all coaches.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div>The average NSR prospect has over a 3.2 GPA.\u00a0 He or she has been carefully vetted by an on-the-ground NSR scout who meets the prospects and interviews them along with their parents during in-home visits.\u00a0 This process allows us to qualify them for our service and effectively screen them for you and other college coaches.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Our placement rate is over 90%.\u00a0 Because we require that each NSR prospect pass these strict enrollment standards, we have a very high success rate.\u00a0 We go after the same prospects that you would.\u00a0 We do not enroll anyone that does not meet our standards which, in essence, are your standards, too.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>I hope that this satisfactorily answers your questions and addresses your concerns.\u00a0 We are a company which serves both our clients and college coaches.\u00a0 And we do this with a great deal of pride and professionalism.\u00a0 It is our sincere hope that you will see fit to work with us as we present you with high quality candidates for your program.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Alan Parham<\/div>\n<div>NSR Director of\u00a0Enrollments and Communications<\/div>\n<div>Office:\u00a0 (800) 354-0072<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Note from NCAA coach offers opportunity for clarity in scouting services Occasionally we get a note from a college coach wanting to know about our NCAA certification and why NSR is so special as to make him or her want to use our service regularly.\u00a0 See, there are so many scouting services that quality can &#8230;
