{"id":6796,"date":"2012-10-31T20:51:12","date_gmt":"2012-10-31T20:51:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nsr-inc.com\/blog\/?p=6796"},"modified":"2012-10-31T20:51:12","modified_gmt":"2012-10-31T20:51:12","slug":"high-school-club-and-travel-coaches-are-handcuffed-in-promoting-their-athletes-to-college-coaches-for-recruiting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nsr-inc.com\/scouting-news\/high-school-club-and-travel-coaches-are-handcuffed-in-promoting-their-athletes-to-college-coaches-for-recruiting\/","title":{"rendered":"High school, club and travel coaches are handcuffed in promoting their athletes to college coaches for recruiting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Knowing the reality of your situation could make all the difference in the world to your athlete<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6799\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6799\" style=\"width: 295px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/nsr-inc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Coach-and-athlete-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-6799\" title=\"Coach and athlete 1\" src=\"\/\/nsr-inc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Coach-and-athlete-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"305\" height=\"184\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6799\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Coaches have very little time, and even less money, to promote your athlete to college coaches.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It is a regular occurrence.\u00a0 When an NSR on-the-ground scout interviews a prospect and parents, one of the most common concerns\u00a0they express is, &#8220;We thought our coach would handle all the recruiting stuff for us, but nothing is happening.\u00a0 He (or she) isn&#8217;t\u00a0doing anything to contact college coaches for us.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Surprising?\u00a0 No doubt, coaches are to\u00a0be admired for the\u00a0uncommon dedication they exhibit toward their craft and the athletes they instruct.\u00a0 But closer examination\u00a0clearly reveals that\u00a0expecting that\u00a0coaches should add promoting their athletes to colleges as part of their responsibilities is unfair, unrealistic and illogical.<\/p>\n<p>High school coaches are especially targeted in this assumption.\u00a0 Yet,\u00a0there&#8217;s a fundamental problem with this thinking &#8211; where do they find the time?\u00a0 Add up their hours.\u00a0 Class prep, class, grading papers or results.\u00a0\u00a0Teacher meetings.\u00a0 Posting results.\u00a0 Practices.\u00a0 Games.\u00a0 Drive time.\u00a0 Practice and game prep time.\u00a0 Equipment care.\u00a0 Film evaluation.\u00a0\u00a0Coaching staff meetings.\u00a0 Booster club meetings.\u00a0 Pre-game meals.\u00a0 Put pencil to paper on each of these essential duties and you will see that there is not time enough to stop and promote your athlete much less all the athletes on their team that\u00a0deserve such attention.\u00a0 Moreover, you will not find any coach&#8217;s contract which includes a\u00a0requirement for this or a budgeted line item to pay for it.\u00a0 Oh, and then there&#8217;s the\u00a0personal time they need.\u00a0 Where&#8217;s the time, and where&#8217;s the money, going to come from?<\/p>\n<p>Club and travel\u00a0coaches are typically\u00a0just as\u00a0limited in time because of their full-time jobs and mostly volunteer work they do for\u00a0the team.\u00a0 Yes, they may run into a college coach here\u00a0or there at tournaments or\u00a0events, but that is the limit to their exposure to coaches.\u00a0 They don&#8217;t have a database of coaches to contact, at least not enough names to be consequential.<\/p>\n<p>So, who&#8217;s\u00a0really going to help you with recruiting?\u00a0 Who will answer the hard questions, call the coaches, reach out to not just a few, but to\u00a0all of them?\u00a0 Who&#8217;s going to explain\u00a0how to navigate the process so that you maximize every opportunity?\u00a0 Who will prep you for\u00a0campus visits?<\/p>\n<p>Consider all this.\u00a0 Answer the questions.\u00a0 Do all this because your child&#8217;s life and athletic career hang in the balance.\u00a0\u00a0They really do.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Knowing the reality of your situation could make all the difference in the world to your athlete It is a regular occurrence.\u00a0 When an NSR on-the-ground scout interviews a prospect and parents, one of the most common concerns\u00a0they express is, &#8220;We thought our coach would handle all the recruiting stuff for us, but nothing is &#8230;
