Options are rare for most prospects, but they are attainable if you choose the right route<\/strong><\/p>\n

Taking the wrong route could get you lost in recruiting.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

High school senior prospects too frequently are forced to settle for accepting an offer from the one school that finds them.\u00a0 Why is this, you ask?\u00a0 It’s typically because parents have bought into the erroneous idea that participating in club or travel sports will automatically result in tons of coaches seeing them and making them offers.<\/p><\/div>\n

This thought process is understandable, but it is not real world recruiting.\u00a0 Yes,\u00a0club and travel tournaments, showcases and related\u00a0events are where college\u00a0coaches do\u00a0most of their eyes-on recruiting.\u00a0 But, the fallacy of this supposition\u00a0revolves around the fact that nearly every college coach attending these events already know who they are going to evaluate when they arrive.\u00a0\u00a0They\u00a0have already received info on\u00a0prospects from, and this is the key, reliable sources.\u00a0 And, in truth, mamma and daddy aren’t the reliable sources college coaches depend upon. Never have been.\u00a0 Never will be.<\/p>\n

Look, there are dead end streets in recruiting.\u00a0 They lead to nowhere.\u00a0 For instance, getting your name\u00a0in the local newspaper.\u00a0 Fun and exciting, but\u00a0it’s a dead end.\u00a0 Being selected to the post season\u00a0All-This or All-That?\u00a0\u00a0Everybody who is recruited to play college sports is\u00a0All-This\u00a0or All-That.\u00a0 So,\u00a0those are\u00a0roads to nowhere, too.\u00a0 Coaches aren’t waiting for these lists to come out to start\u00a0their recruiting process.<\/p>\n

What about the high school, club or travel coach?\u00a0 Is he\u00a0 or she\u00a0going to realistically be your promoter to multiple\u00a0colleges?\u00a0 Think about it.\u00a0 How much time would\u00a0it take for your coach to promote you?\u00a0 How many letters would he or she have to send?\u00a0 How many phone calls?\u00a0 When\u00a0is there time in his or her busy, busy schedule to focus on you and your dreams of playing college sports?\u00a0 And,\u00a0you’re just one\u00a0athlete on the team.\u00a0 Where do you fit into that equation?\u00a0 Not good, huh?<\/p>\n

Choices – that’s what every high school prospect wants.\u00a0 And the way to get those choices?\u00a0 First, you must get in the recruiting process early.\u00a0 Second, you must be aggressive.\u00a0 Third, you must hit as many schools as possible; hundreds are not too many and there are hundreds of schools that may want you.\u00a0 Third, you must be ardent about following up with each exposed opportunity which presents itself.\u00a0\u00a0Fourth, you must have a guide, a resource\u00a0which intimately\u00a0gets what is\u00a0going and how to take full advantage of your options.<\/p>\n
