{"id":660,"date":"2010-06-25T10:22:45","date_gmt":"2010-06-25T16:22:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/\/?p=660"},"modified":"2010-06-25T10:22:45","modified_gmt":"2010-06-25T16:22:45","slug":"alexis-jones-usa-squad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nsr-inc.com\/scouting-news\/alexis-jones-usa-squad\/","title":{"rendered":"Alexis Jones Makes USA Junior Squad"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>NSR Prospect Picked to Represent USA<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When the invitation arrived from the <strong>USA Junior National Basketball Team Committee<\/strong>, <strong>NSR <\/strong>basketball prospect, <strong>Alexis Jones<\/strong> from McArthur High in Irvine, Texas, knew she desperately wanted to make the 16U squad.\u00a0 A rising junior at McArthur, the 5\u20199\u201d guard wanted to compete with the best. \u00a0Given a chance to try out for the 16\u2019s last summer, Alexis had failed to make the team.\u00a0 This year, she vowed, would be different.<\/p>\n<p>At the tryouts held at the <strong>U.S. Olympic Training Center<\/strong> (USOTC) in Colorado Springs, CO, Alexis thought she was competitive with the other girls, but she was pulled aside and given the news that she would not be a candidate for the 16U team.\u00a0 Instead, Alexis was informed that she was being pulled up to compete for a spot on the 18U squad, a jump few players have ever made.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_663\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-663\" style=\"width: 134px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/jones1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-663\" title=\"Alexis Jones\" src=\"\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/jones1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"144\" height=\"211\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-663\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Alexis Jones is excited to represent U.S.A<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The <strong>USA Junior National Team Committee<\/strong> is chaired by <strong>Sue Donohoe<\/strong>, the <strong>NCAA\u2019s<\/strong> vice president for Division I women\u2019s basketball. \u00a0\u00a0Members of the committee itself are <strong>Joanne Boyle<\/strong> (University of California head coach), <strong>Coquese Washington<\/strong> (Penn State University head coach), <strong>Connie Yori<\/strong> (University of Nebraska head coach) and <strong>Beth Cunningham<\/strong> (1999 USA Pan American Games Team member) who is the \u201cathlete representative.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>From June 8-11, 27 players battled during three days of trials for the USA U18 National Team, and 36 additional athletes competed in the <strong>USA U17 World Championship Team Trials<\/strong>. \u00a0The USA Junior National Team Committee chose 16 finalists \u2013 12 from the U18 trials and four from the U17 trials \u2013 to vie amongst each other for the 12 <strong>USA U18 National Team<\/strong> roster spots over four more trials sessions, which culminated with selections which were announced Sunday, June 13.<\/p>\n<p>Alexis had made the 18U team and would represent her country. \u00a0\u00a0When asked to comment, Alexis said, \u201cI was surprised that they were going to let me try out for the 18s.
