{"id":6555,"date":"2012-10-05T14:37:34","date_gmt":"2012-10-05T14:37:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nsr-inc.com\/blog\/?p=6555"},"modified":"2012-10-05T14:37:34","modified_gmt":"2012-10-05T14:37:34","slug":"high-school-prospects-should-begin-the-promotion-process-asap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nsr-inc.com\/scouting-news\/high-school-prospects-should-begin-the-promotion-process-asap\/","title":{"rendered":"High school prospects should begin the promotion process ASAP"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_6556\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6556\" style=\"width: 147px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/nsr-inc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Michaela-Decker-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-6556\" title=\"Michaela Decker 2\" src=\"\/\/nsr-inc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Michaela-Decker-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"157\" height=\"218\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6556\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Michaela Decker, a 2016 softball player from California, is already being promoted to college coaches nationwide.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Our scouts across the globe often encounter this statement from parents, &#8220;It&#8217;s too early to begin the recruiting process.\u00a0\u00a0My child is\u00a0only a sophomore (or freshman).&#8221;\u00a0 It&#8217;s a philosophy wrought with problems, not the least of which is that college coaches are constantly searching for the prospects which will help their programs to improve, shine and win titles, regardless of their age.\u00a0 Coaches are now identifying prospects as\u00a0early as the eighth grade.<\/p>\n<p>This misconception of when to start the recruiting process is born from by-gone times.\u00a0 The college recruiting culture has taken a turn and parents and prospects that cling to antiquated ideas all too often get left out and wanting.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a new era in recruiting which clearly dictates that high school athletes serious about playing sports\u00a0at the next\u00a0level must enter the fray as soon as possible.\u00a0 Today is not\u00a0premature for any prospect in any sport.<\/p>\n<p>The NCAA is opening up opportunity\u00a0windows earlier than ever before for prospects.\u00a0\u00a0In Division I basketball and all of Division II, coaches may now begin making\u00a0initial, personal contact\u00a0on June 15 following athletes&#8217; sophomore year.\u00a0 But even with this full year of\u00a0permissable\u00a0contact, which is groundbreaking to say the least, athletes and their parents must understand that from the moment they enter the eighth grade the race in on\u00a0for scholarship offers.\u00a0 Yes, the eighth grade.\u00a0 Coaches may, in fact, make oral offers at anytime.\u00a0 And athletes may in turn accept offers at anytime, too, even though these verbal agreements are not legally binding until the athlete is\u00a0permitted\u00a0to sign a National Letter of\u00a0Intent at various, designated times\u00a0during their senior year.<\/p>\n<p>So, the key question must be asked and answered by parents and prospects:\u00a0 When is the best time to jump in?\u00a0\u00a0The answer?\u00a0 As\u00a0soon as an athlete indicates\u00a0that he or she wants, or even\u00a0has a\u00a0slight desire,\u00a0to play college sports.\u00a0 Waiting is no longer a viable option.\u00a0 Doing so offers no advantage whatsoever.<\/p>\n<p>The clock\u00a0is running, always.\u00a0 College coaches are in the prowl.\u00a0 They are sifting through hundreds, if not thousands, of\u00a0prospects every day regardless of the\u00a0prospect&#8217;s graduation date.\u00a0\u00a0They are not waiting.\u00a0\u00a0And once they find the athletes they are certain will enhance their program, they home in on\u00a0them like a laser beam, sometimes to the exclusion of other equally, or more, talented prospects than those\u00a0that choose to wait because &#8220;it is too early.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our scouts across the globe often encounter this statement from parents, &#8220;It&#8217;s too early to begin the recruiting process.\u00a0\u00a0My child is\u00a0only a sophomore (or freshman).&#8221;\u00a0 It&#8217;s a philosophy wrought with problems, not the least of which is that college coaches are constantly searching for the prospects which will help their programs to improve, shine and &#8230;
