Assertive or passive, which are you?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>A new catch phrase will soon sweep the athletic landscape — fight-ready.\u00a0\u00a0I heard it recently in an interview and the imagery created was powerful.\u00a0 For\u00a0me, it speaks to recruiting and what an NSR prospect has to\u00a0do to face and\u00a0overcome the competition to secure\u00a0a college athletic scholarship.\u00a0 While I will reserve the details of how to best accomplish this\u00a0formidable task for our monthly newsletters to NSR prospects worldwide,\u00a0I will\u00a0say here that for high school athletes, your fight starts the moment you enter the ninth grade.\u00a0 And if you are not fight-ready, you will<\/em> lose the battle for a scholarship offer.<\/p>\n

If you are a legit college prospect, you\u00a0are\u00a0in a\u00a0fight, that is for certain.\u00a0 It is not a direct, physical\u00a0fight, but it is<\/em> a fight nonetheless.\u00a0 Yes, an unavoidable and integral part of the fight occurs in the classroom, on the field, court or track.\u00a0 That’s where you prove you belong in the recruiting mix.\u00a0 But, for the most part, this battle happens on paper and on video.\u00a0 More importantly, howeverr,\u00a0it is manifested in\u00a0your commitment level to winning a scholarship.\u00a0 But, are you fight-ready?<\/p>\n

If this were a televised race and you knew that the starting point was your first day of the ninth grade and the final day was the end of\u00a0your\u00a0senior year, would\u00a0it\u00a0make sense to\u00a0begin the race in the middle of your junior year?\u00a0\u00a0Would it not make sense that\u00a0at least a good number of your competitors would\u00a0be taking\u00a0their initial steps on Day One and that they would be taking\u00a0at least a a few strides forward every day from that point onward?\u00a0 Yet, knowing this, you would choose to wait\u00a0two years before\u00a0taking your first steps in the race?\u00a0 Think about how far behind the others\u00a0you would be.\u00a0 Think about all the advantages your competitors would have over you.\u00a0 So, are you fight-ready?<\/p>\n

College coaches can make contact with you as a high school freshman and they will\u00a0if<\/em> they know\u00a0about you.\u00a0 Some coaches have, in fact,\u00a0already\u00a0contacted and scouted some of your competitors.\u00a0\u00a0Those relationships will continue to grow in time as you sit on the sidelines.\u00a0 Some of your competitors may actually receive offers as you wait patiently for coaches to find you.\u00a0\u00a0Are you fight-ready?<\/p>\n

Your competitors, the ones in the race, are proving that they are\u00a0indeed fight-ready because they are actually in the race.\u00a0\u00a0 They are being assertive.\u00a0\u00a0If you are not in the race, you are being passive.\u00a0 Which one of you will get the most scholarship considerations?<\/p>\n
