Are you sitting there wondering when a college coach will call?\u00a0 Do you believe that if you make All-Conference, All-Region or even All-State that a coach will knock on your door?\u00a0 Are you hoping that if your team has a good year that a coach will want to sign you?\u00a0 If so, you are wrong on all counts.\u00a0 Recruiting does not work that way.\u00a0 Those days are long, long gone.<\/p>\n

To be recruited you first have to be recognized and coaches don’t recruit from articles in the newspaper or from online pieces.\u00a0 You have to go to them.\u00a0 Sit and you will be overlooked, never to be seen, evaluated or recruited.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Your coaches, high school or club, don’t\u00a0have time to promote you to colleges.\u00a0 They’re working 50 to 70 hours a week\u00a0just doing\u00a0their day\u00a0jobs and coaching practices and games.\u00a0\u00a0Plus, they\u00a0weren’t hired, nor are they being paid, to run a marketing campaign, including sending video, to college coaches.\u00a0 It’s\u00a0just not a\u00a0part of their job description.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n

Getting in front of college coaches is on you and your family.\u00a0 And to that end, you\u00a0really only have two choices:\u00a0 do it yourself or get a scouting service to do it for you.\u00a0<\/p>\n

If you elect to go it on your own, expect the cost to be much more than you anticipated.\u00a0 Then,\u00a0it will take much longer\u00a0than you anticipated, too.\u00a0\u00a0Weeks and months may go by before you actually get your profile and video\u00a0sent out to coaches.\u00a0\u00a0But, let’s say you do somehow put together a package to send to coaches.\u00a0 Who do you send it to?\u00a0 One, two, three, maybe four coaches?\u00a0\u00a0And,\u00a0do you\u00a0really think that distributing\u00a0your package once will do the trick?\u00a0 How long might it sit in the corner on the pile with other self-submitted stuff?\u00a0 And, with a coach generally in the office only a few hours a day,\u00a0what\u00a0is the chance that yours will be picked up and looked at\u00a0from among all the others?\u00a0 Sounds a bit foolish, don’t you think?\u00a0<\/p>\n

Give this some serious thought because the\u00a0opportunity to be recruited will only happen once in your\u00a0life.\u00a0 Once.\u00a0\u00a0And there are no do-overs.\u00a0<\/p>\n

You are a product, in essence.\u00a0 You need\u00a0to be advertised like a bar of soap or a car or a set of tools.\u00a0 Right?\u00a0 Right.\u00a0\u00a0So, does it make any sense to advertise\u00a0just that once?\u00a0 No.\u00a0 What you\u00a0really need is a continuous advertising, or promotional, effort to\u00a0get\u00a0the attention of coaches.\u00a0<\/p>\n
