{"id":4788,"date":"2011-09-14T10:34:45","date_gmt":"2011-09-14T16:34:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/\/?p=4788"},"modified":"2011-09-14T10:34:45","modified_gmt":"2011-09-14T16:34:45","slug":"eligibility-centers-in-place-to-expedite-process-while-promoting-academic-achievement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nsr-inc.com\/scouting-news\/eligibility-centers-in-place-to-expedite-process-while-promoting-academic-achievement\/","title":{"rendered":"Eligibility Centers in Place to Expedite Process While Demanding Academic Responsibility"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/NCAA-logo7.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4791\" title=\"NCAA logo\" src=\"\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/NCAA-logo7.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"199\" height=\"183\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/NAIA-1.jpg\"><\/a>The <a href=\"www.ncaa.org\">NCAA<\/a> and <a href=\"www.playnaia.org\">NAIA<\/a> have initial eligibility centers in place, albeit the NAIA came to the party very late.\u00a0 That aside, both organizations&#8217; offices are meant to accomplish two primary objectives:\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To verify high school\u00a0and junior college student-athletes&#8217; core\u00a0course grades and standardized test scores.<\/li>\n<li>To expedite the process for freshman\u00a0and JUCO eligibility.<\/li>\n<li>To eliminate cheating in academic reporting to the organizations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/NAIA-11.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4800\" title=\"NAIA 1\" src=\"\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/NAIA-11.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"112\" \/><\/a>Every high school freshman\u00a0and junior college student-athlete planning to participate in\u00a0NCAA\u00a0and\u00a0NAIA athletics must meet or exceed the minimum academic requirements set by their respective organizations prior to being ruled eligible to play at their chosen colleges.\u00a0 While the NCAA standards are slightly more rigid than those of the NAIA,\u00a0each was\u00a0established to require incoming student-athletes to be prepared for the more strenuous academic settings and demands of college life.\u00a0 Further, each organization has assumed\u00a0a mandate to graduate their athlete students without exception if at all possible.\u00a0\u00a0By setting academic guidelines for\u00a0athletic eligibilty,\u00a0the NCAA and\u00a0NAIA are sending the clear message that athletes are expected to be students first and not to be run in and out of athletic departments\u00a0without regard to their academic\u00a0responsibilities to the\u00a0institutions which they attend.<\/p>\n<p>Gone\u00a0are the days when manufactured\u00a0or altered transcripts could be submitted directly to colleges for blind-eye examination and verification.\u00a0 And gone, too, are the days when an NCAA or NAIA coach was permitted to push an athlete through the school&#8217;s admissions office for the sake of landing a top recruit whose academic history would\u00a0otherwise fail\u00a0to meet any reasonable scrutiny of academic baseline performance.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Through these departments, the NCAA and NAIA have done high school and junior college athletes across the country a major plus by setting these expectations.\u00a0 These academic boundaries are encouraging more athletes to give due attention to their grades which in turn produces a higher quality college student and athlete.\u00a0 We applaud their efforts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The NCAA and NAIA have initial eligibility centers in place, albeit the NAIA came to the party very late.\u00a0 That aside, both organizations&#8217; offices are meant to accomplish two primary objectives:\u00a0\u00a0 To verify high school\u00a0and junior college student-athletes&#8217; core\u00a0course grades and standardized test scores.
