Be Ready When You Get There!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>When Coaches Buckle Down and Come at You, Will You Be Ready?<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4772\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4772\" style=\"width: 194px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Will-Anglin1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4772\" title=\"Will Anglin\" src=\"\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Will-Anglin1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"204\" height=\"253\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4772\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">2012 football prospect Will Anglin knows that his NSR scout Clay Parker has his back in the RZ.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Every high school prospect\u00a0that is eventually recruited will at some point enter the RZ, that is, their own\u00a0recruiting Red Zone.\u00a0 That&#8217;s where every move, email, voice mail, phone call, in-person meeting, text, Facebook post or Tweet counts as a gain or a loss with interested coaches.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Like football, your RZ deserves separate attention from the goings-on of\u00a0the normal, daily recruiting routine.\u00a0 Intensity and focus on execution jump up a\u00a0notch. \u00a0Connecting with and impressing coaches, attending camps, having readily available video in their hands when they want it, continually updating your profile information and building solid relationships with coaches &#8212; that&#8217;s the\u00a0hard work of getting to the RZ\u00a0\u00a0 But, once you have arrived it\u2019s what you do with the opportunity staring at you across the line that truly matters to everyone concerned &#8212; you, your family and the college coaching staff.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The RZ is\u00a0where coaches turn serious about their interest in you and begin the final weeding out process.\u00a0 You can take nothing for granted.\u00a0 Every play on your end is a strategic move\u00a0and takes you closer or farther from your goal &#8212; a scholarship offer.\u00a0 A\u00a0smart move puts you\u00a0closer.\u00a0 A dumb mistake\u00a0is a set back and can\u00a0end your hopes with that coach and school.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For instance, familiarity with a coach and staff does not give you the liberty to call them by their first names or to disregard their attempts to contact you.\u00a0 Several years ago, I was working with a great, DI-caliber softball player.\u00a0 A regional DI coach had made contact with her and was impressed with their initial conversation.\u00a0 So much so that the coach had moved the prospect into the top five of her recruiting list.\u00a0 The girl had, indeed, entered the RZ with that coach.\u00a0 But then disaster hit.\u00a0 One afternoon the coach called the girl to build on their relationship and to invite the girl on an official visit.\u00a0 When the girl answered her cell phone, here was the conversation which ensued:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhitney, this is Coach Smith.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHi, Donna, can I call you back in about an hour?\u00a0 I\u2019m at the mall with my friends and am really busy right now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s okay.\u00a0 I\u2019ll call you back another time.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4774\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4774\" style=\"width: 214px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Coach-on-phone-33.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4774\" title=\"Coach on phone 3\" src=\"\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Coach-on-phone-33.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"224\" height=\"155\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4774\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">When college coaches put you in their RZ, you should be ready with a workable, effective plan. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>That exchange ended the prospect\u2019s chances with the coach and any chance the girl had of receiving a scholarship offer.\u00a0 Her disrespect for the coach by presumptively calling the coach by her first name and then blowing off the coach in lieu of shopping with her friends doomed her status with the coach.
