Many Athletes Thrive <\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\">\n<figure id=\"attachment_4385\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4385\" style=\"width: 241px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Rachelle-Gremo-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4385\" title=\"Rachelle Gremo 3\" src=\"\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Rachelle-Gremo-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"251\" height=\"322\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4385\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rachelle Gremo from Wisconsin went to a New Jersey JUCO and is now headed for a Florida four-year school.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Going straight from high school to a four year college is sometimes not the best route for high school student-athletes.\u00a0 But, there is a terrific alternative which many parents and athletes discount or overlook, junior college.\u00a0 At <strong>NSR<\/strong>, our scouts often run into scenarios which lend themselves to serious consideration of the JUCO path, and we are quick to recommend it for particular prep student-athletes.\u00a0 Here are some scenarios\u00a0as examples:<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Good\u00a0student-athlete that got into the recruiting process\u00a0too late.\u00a0<\/strong> This is the most common situation\u00a0we encounter &#8212; a very good high school\u00a0athlete with\u00a0good grades that simply waited too late to try and connect with college coaches.\u00a0 Depending on outdated ideas of how the recruiting\u00a0process works, these solid student-athletes are left with leftovers.\u00a0 It&#8217;s not fair, true, but it happens everywhere from the biggest\u00a0metro\u00a0high schools to the smallest rural one.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Good student-athlete whose size, strength, speed, etc., kept them from being recruited.<\/strong>\u00a0 Some\u00a0athletes are physically only beginning to hit their stride\u00a0as seniors.\u00a0 These late bloomers start seeing remarkable changes in their\u00a0bodies through natural growth and\u00a0long term exercise plans such as weight training.\u00a0\u00a0As a result, they may have seen limited playing time in high school, but they are confident in their fundamentals, grasp of the sport and\u00a0potential.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Good student-athlete primarily playing a support role in high school.<\/strong>\u00a0 We\u00a0regularly see really good high school athletes on really good teams who\u00a0cannot possibly grab the attention of college coaches because they are relegated to mop-up duties in games.\u00a0 Unfair or not, some solid athletes with the game and grades to move up to the next level simply don&#8217;t get the chance to be seen and evaluated.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Good student-athlete in a bad situation.<\/strong>\u00a0 Whether it is poor coaching, a relationship gone bad with a coach, no surrounding talent, or a very small school playing against zero competition, many very good college prospects never get a chance to be considered by college coaches because of the situation they find themselves.\u00a0 A rift with\u00a0a coach and a negative recommendation can doom a\u00a0good athlete who is otherwise a viable prospect.\u00a0 Playing with substandard teammates can place a loser label a potential recruit.\u00a0 Good numbers against lowly regarded competitors can be an Albatross which is hard to dispatch.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Good athlete, unacceptable grades.<\/strong>\u00a0 Some athletes simply wait too late to start studying.\u00a0 When the light bulb doesn&#8217;t come on until their senior year, it is often too late to shed any light on an otherwise dismal academic record.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>JUCO Bad Rap Undeserved;
