{"id":4277,"date":"2011-06-21T12:49:01","date_gmt":"2011-06-21T18:49:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/\/?p=4277"},"modified":"2011-06-21T12:49:01","modified_gmt":"2011-06-21T18:49:01","slug":"sabrina-turner-blogs-at-national-qualifier-for-espn-and-asa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nsr-inc.com\/scouting-news\/sabrina-turner-blogs-at-national-qualifier-for-espn-and-asa\/","title":{"rendered":"Sabrina Turner Blogs at National Qualifier for ESPN and ASA"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><strong><\/strong><\/div>\n<p><strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4287\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4287\" style=\"width: 248px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Sabrina-Turner-11.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4287\" title=\"Sabrina Turner 1\" src=\"\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Sabrina-Turner-11.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"258\" height=\"377\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4287\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sabrina Turner<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>2015 Grad Shows Off Writing Skills at\u00a0Disney Softball Event<\/p>\n<p><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>NSR standout softball prospect, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/app.nsr-inc.com\/prospectResume\/pProspectResume.aspx?id=184232\">Sabrina Turner<\/a><\/strong>, from Presbyterian Christian School in Hattiesburg, MS, was recently selected to be the player blogger for the <a href=\"http:\/\/espnwwos.disney.go.com\/events\/fastpitch-softball\/espn-rise-girlsusa-asa-fastpitch-national-qualifier\/\">2011 ESPN Rise Girls Showcase and the Fast Pitch ASA National Qualifier<\/a> at Disney&#8217;s Wide\u00a0World of Sports\u00a0in Kissimmee, FL.\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/rise.espn.go.com\/all-sports-girls\/articles\/2011\/05\/26-sabrina-turner.aspx?pursuit=Softball\"><\/a>\u00a0And, not only did the the 5&#8217;9&#8243; rising freshman pitcher whgo carries a 4.3 GPA do an impressive job reporting her experiences at the event, she also managed to become one of the tournament&#8217;s\u00a0legitimate stars.<\/p>\n<p>Sabrina plays travel ball with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/Alabama-Elite\/175426363597\">Alabama Elite<\/a> and head coach P.J. Gallardo.\u00a0 The team entered the event to secure a berth to the ASA Nationals scheduled for July 31-Aug. 7 in Midland, TX.\u00a0\u00a0 P.J. was contacted by Susie Arth from ESPN Rise and asked the coach to nominate one player for the softball blogger consideration.\u00a0 He\u00a0chose Sabrina.\u00a0\u00a0Arth contacted other teams and asked for nominations and qualifications from each as well.\u00a0\u00a0 Shortly thereafter, Sabrina received a phone call from ESPN letting her know that Sabrina had been selected.\u00a0\u00a0She was not compensated for her work.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sabrina wrote about her experiences preparing for the Disney tournament and during the tournament.\u00a0 She was the only blogger for fast pitch softball at the RISE showcase.\u00a0 Coincidentally, out of the three bloggers selected to cover the event,\u00a0Sabrina&#8217;s\u00a0team was the only which advanced to the championship game.\u00a0 And, her team\u00a0won the tournament with wins over Future Rebels (9-0), Florida Sharks (5-4), Central Florida Sting (5-3), Team Miken (1-0) and Gainesville Gold (5-4).\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0She wrote her blog entries\u00a0without a mentoring from ESPN.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Her entries are\u00a0still posted\u00a0on the ESPN website.\u00a0 She had great fun doing it and, as icing on the\u00a0cake,\u00a0she was even interviewed by ESPN after the championship game.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>However, the greatest honor from the event was delivered to her after Sabrina and her family arrived back home.\u00a0\u00a0 She was named one of the <a href=\"http:\/\/rise.espn.go.com\/all-sports-girls\/articles\/2011\/06\/06-showcase-stars.aspx?pursuit=GirlsOther\">top twelve stars<\/a> of the tournament.\u00a0 There were 15,000 female athletes at the showcase from a variety of sports including basketball, softball and gymnastics.\u00a0 For the tournament, Sabrina\u00a0had three wins in the circle. including the semi-final game and the championship game, and she batted .467 for the tournament as a lead-off hitter.\u00a0 When she\u00a0was\u00a0not pitching, Sabrina played third base\u00a0or shortstop.<\/p>\n<p>Sabrina will be a freshman at Presbyterian Christian School in Hattiesburg, MS this fall.\u00a0 She enters high school with a\u00a04.33 GPA.\u00a0 In softball,\u00a0she is the sole pitcher for the varsity softball team.\u00a0 Last season,\u00a0they won the MAIS AAA State Championship.\u00a0\u00a0Sabrina pitched every game in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pcsbobcatssports.com\/?p=574\">South State<\/a> and the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pcsbobcatssports.com\/?p=581\">State Championship<\/a> games.\u00a0 Overall, she\u00a0ended the year with\u00a0an impressive record of 22 and 6.\u00a0 Additionally, she led the team in batting average (.484), hits and stolen bases.\u00a0 She was named to the All-State Tournament Team, the All-South State Tournament Team and the All-District Tournament Team, all\u00a0as an eighth grader.<\/p>\n<p>Sabrina&#8217;s <strong>NSR<\/strong> scout is <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/64.79.224.60\/ms\/phux\/\">Paul Hux, Central Mississippi Area Director<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 2015 Grad Shows Off Writing Skills at\u00a0Disney Softball Event NSR standout softball prospect, Sabrina Turner, from Presbyterian Christian School in Hattiesburg, MS, was recently selected to be the player blogger for the 2011 ESPN Rise Girls Showcase and the Fast Pitch ASA National Qualifier at Disney&#8217;s Wide\u00a0World of Sports\u00a0in Kissimmee, FL.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0And, not only &#8230;
