star forward Dirk Nowitski provided\u00a0support help for his teammates instead of taking the lead role.\u00a0\u00a0With his\u00a0team struggling in the first half, Mav&#8217;s coach Rick Carlisle went to his bench\u00a0for help.\u00a0 He got\u00a0it, too.\u00a0 The\u00a0reserves\u00a0overran the Lakers to\u00a0a 63-29 halftime advantage.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>You don&#8217;t have to hit Coach Carlisle over the head with a\u00a0Laker Girl for him to know that his bench players were hot and his starters were not.\u00a0 So, in the second half as the re-inserted starters began to let the lead slip away, Coach Carlisle took out most of his starters, except for Nowitski, and pushed his second team back on the\u00a0floor.\u00a0 Off\u00a0they went again on another incredible run as the Mavs swept the inept Lakers,\u00a0four games to none, to\u00a0move on to the\u00a0conference finals.<\/p>\n<p>So, what was so extraordinary about Nowitski?\u00a0\u00a0He was smart enough not to mess with the rhythm of the team by\u00a0attempting to\u00a0nudge his way into the forefront.\u00a0 Think Kobe would have done\u00a0that?\u00a0 How about LeBron?\u00a0\u00a0Probably not.\u00a0 Dirk is smarter than those guys because he was after one thing and one thing only, the win.\u00a0\u00a0He could have cared less if he got his.\u00a0\u00a0The team reaching the next\u00a0step of the playoffs was his entire purpose for being on that floor and he was willing to do his part that day to see it happen.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It just happened to be that on that particular day, Nowitski&#8217;s place was as a support mechanism to other lesser known\u00a0players whose hands were pistol hot\u00a0when shooting and exceptional\u00a0on rebounds and steals.\u00a0 Here was a star whose personal record of having scored more than 20 points\u00a0in 11 straight playoff games was about to end and it\u00a0meant absolutely nothing to him.\u00a0 One of the top ten players in the NBA stood aside\u00a0because it was the right thing to do for the team.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4009\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4009\" style=\"width: 280px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Athlete-soccer.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4009\" title=\"Athlete - soccer\" src=\"\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Athlete-soccer.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"290\" height=\"397\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4009\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Star power comes when you can sense and respond to what&#39;s best for your team.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Most high school prospects are the stars of their teams.\u00a0 They are the ones the\u00a0other players and their coaches look to when the time calls for them to rise\u00a0above\u00a0the\u00a0pressure and fray to lead the team to another hard fought win.\u00a0 But, what if other players are already\u00a0in the groove and taking on that role?\u00a0 What if\u00a0putting yourself in between them and a\u00a0possible win might break that all-important rhythm?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mature athletes, that is, unselfish athletes, can sense what&#8217;s happening within his or her team and they\u00a0have the courage to step back and enjoy the show, and the win.\u00a0 Are you that kind of athlete?\u00a0\u00a0Do you have it within you to allow others to take the lead or the glory?\u00a0 If not, look harder at yourself.\u00a0 Sometimes\u00a0allowing the spotlight to shine on\u00a0others is more important to the team than making\u00a0sure it&#8217;s on you all the time.\u00a0 And, when\u00a0you reach that point, you know that your priorities are in proper alignment.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>NSR on-the-ground scouts\u00a0want to find and enroll\u00a0high school prospects whose perspective\u00a0of the\u00a0game is not clouded by ego.\u00a0 We are in constant search of those student-athletes whose purpose is team driven, not personally focused.\u00a0 If\u00a0you are\u00a0what we are looking for, we should scout you in person.\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/signup-form\/\">Click\u00a0here<\/a> and an NSR scout will contact you.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When Help From Teammates Arrives, Give Them the Stage During the final game of the NBA Western Conference semi-finals this past weekend between the Dallas Mavericks and the Lost, oops, Los Angeles Lakers, something very cool happened.\u00a0\u00a0 Dallas&#8217;
