Working Hard Can Never\u00a0Take a Break\u00a0for\u00a0High School Prospects<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>How many times have you seen really good youth league athletes flame out by the time they reached high school?\u00a0 And, how many of those flameouts can be attributed to\u00a0laziness?\u00a0\u00a0It’s something we see everyday in high school sports scouting — that\u00a0an athlete is pointed out to us\u00a0who had so much potential as a youngster but whose lack of work ethic\u00a0kept him or her from reaching their potential.\u00a0<\/p>\n

College athletic scholarship offers can be tied directly to work ethic.\u00a0 When\u00a0athletes, regardless of their age,\u00a0stop working hard,\u00a0we consistently see a precipitous drop in their ability, attitude and accomplishments.\u00a0 And with that\u00a0fall, dreams evaporate like a drops of water under a bright light.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Aspiring to\u00a0make the jump from one level to the next higher ledge is\u00a0farther than most young people, and their parents,\u00a0expect.\u00a0\u00a0Each leap\u00a0requires\u00a0work, plain and simple.\u00a0 The ones\u00a0which recognize this, and take on the challenge in earnest, are the ones whose efforts knock down doors, creating more opportunities and, yes, even more work.\u00a0 But the payoff can be fulfilling the dream of playing college athletics.<\/p>\n

Sweat equity is the best term to\u00a0describe\u00a0what an athlete must adopt if he or she is to eventually earn a college\u00a0athletic scholarship.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0It’s not something which an athlete can ignore or\u00a0disrespect.\u00a0\u00a0A short-term loss of the willingness to work hard, to sweat and grind it out each day, can easily put a\u00a0high school prospect in the unenviable position of being tagged as inconsistent and lazy.\u00a0\u00a0Even high school age athletes can be has-beens.\u00a0 The last thing a prospect wants to drag around as a reputation is that of being lazy.<\/p>\n

Do whatever is required to extend yourself.\u00a0 Get a workout partner.\u00a0 Ask your parents and coaches for help.\u00a0 You will never regret having worked to achieve your dream of securing a college athletic scholarship.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
