{"id":3720,"date":"2011-03-29T12:48:42","date_gmt":"2011-03-29T18:48:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/\/?p=3720"},"modified":"2011-03-29T12:48:42","modified_gmt":"2011-03-29T18:48:42","slug":"lessons-learned-in-ncaa-tourney-apply-to-prep-athletes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nsr-inc.com\/scouting-news\/lessons-learned-in-ncaa-tourney-apply-to-prep-athletes\/","title":{"rendered":"Lessons Learned in NCAA Tourney Apply to Prep Athletes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Your Best Future Could Rest within Smaller School Options<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Student-happy.bmp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-3733\" title=\"Student happy\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Student-happy.bmp\" alt=\"\" width=\"323\" height=\"229\" \/><\/a>The excitement over <a href=\"www.butler.edu\/\">Butler<\/a> and <a href=\"www.vcu.edu\/\">VCU<\/a> advancing to the <a href=\"www.ncaa.com \">Final Four<\/a> in the <a href=\"www.ncaa.com \">NCAA Men&#8217;s Basketball Tournament<\/a> is well-founded.\u00a0 We&#8217;ve seen the changes coming with previous underdogs George Mason (2006) and Butler (2010) advancing to the pinnacle of college basketball.\u00a0 But this year is different.\u00a0\u00a0These DI\u00a0stepchildren are proving to prospects everywhere that you don&#8217;t have be a moutaintop\u00a0student-athlete to experience the improbable.\u00a0 You just have\u00a0to be willing to climb the mountain.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Butler&#8217;s and VCU&#8217;s of college basketball\u00a0are\u00a0highly competitive programs emerging from schools with\u00a0average student body counts and\u00a0coaches still debating within\u00a0 themselves if they should shave every day.\u00a0 These schools\u00a0have mowed down the competition with a combination of\u00a0basketball I.Q, hustle and resiliency, traits their opponents were apparently saving for so-called legitimate opposition.\u00a0 <a href=\"www.ku.edu\/\">Kansas<\/a>,\u00a0VCU&#8217;s latest victim,\u00a0played like they\u00a0were entitled to win, as if to\u00a0collectively ask, &#8220;Don&#8217;t you guys know who we are?&#8221;\u00a0 Apparently not.\u00a0 Fierce determination\u00a0overode the universally expected intimidation factor.\u00a0 Confirmation came during a post game press room\u00a0interview when\u00a0Jayhawks&#8217; stunned head coach Bill Self emphatically declared, &#8220;Those\u00a0guys\u00a0could play for Kansas anyday.&#8221;\u00a0 Good for him.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For the high school athlete, the\u00a0reflective image staring back\u00a0like a Mel Gibson mug shot should not go unnoticed.\u00a0\u00a0It&#8217;s saying, Dream not to be\u00a0recruited by the\u00a0Big Boy\u00a0programs.\u00a0 Instead,\u00a0wish\u00a0for\u00a0an opportunity to come your way where you are wanted and valued and, most importantly, where a coach will look you in the eye and see you as a champion if you have the grit to\u00a0give\u00a0it\u00a0your all, even when facing overwhelming odds.<\/p>\n<p>Simply put, high school prospects are too enamored of big programs.\u00a0\u00a0It&#8217;s normal to be fans of top shelf schools when you are growing up, but when\u00a0actually being recruited,\u00a0consider\u00a0and go to the colleges which offer what you need to be a successful person in life.\u00a0 College\u00a0sports are fleeting.\u00a0\u00a0Your life is not.\u00a0\u00a0Explore your own personal\u00a0needs.\u00a0\u00a0Forget the glimmer of the brighter lights.\u00a0\u00a0Search out\u00a0colleges where you, your athletic\u00a0talent, academic involvement, and professional career will be best nurtured.\u00a0 College is where\u00a0the foundation of the remainder of your life is laid out in realistic terms each day.\u00a0\u00a0And, the\u00a0college you select\u00a0should be\u00a0your home away from home where you feel most comfortable, safe and\u00a0energized.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Your Best Future Could Rest within Smaller School Options The excitement over Butler and VCU advancing to the Final Four in the NCAA Men&#8217;s Basketball Tournament is well-founded.\u00a0 We&#8217;ve seen the changes coming with previous underdogs George Mason (2006) and Butler (2010) advancing to the pinnacle of college basketball.\u00a0 But this year is different.\u00a0\u00a0These DI\u00a0stepchildren &#8230;
