{"id":3474,"date":"2011-03-16T08:13:37","date_gmt":"2011-03-16T14:13:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/\/?p=3474"},"modified":"2011-03-16T08:13:37","modified_gmt":"2011-03-16T14:13:37","slug":"college-coaches-rarely-go-to-high-school-games-but-why","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nsr-inc.com\/scouting-news\/college-coaches-rarely-go-to-high-school-games-but-why\/","title":{"rendered":"College Coaches Rarely Go to High School Games&#8230;but Why?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>It&#8217;s All Really a Matter of Economics<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\">\n<figure id=\"attachment_3482\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3482\" style=\"width: 265px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Coach-scouting1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3482\" title=\"Coach scouting\" src=\"\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Coach-scouting1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"275\" height=\"175\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3482\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Coaches can see many more prospects at a tournament than at a single game for the same money spent.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><a href=\"www.azcentral.com\/...\/20110218auburn-fans-grieve-for-poisoned-oak- trees18-ON.html \">College coaches<\/a> are required to squeeze as much out of a dollar as possible.\u00a0 What does that have to do with them rarely going to high school games?\u00a0\u00a0Let me explain it this way: If I\u00a0said that you would win a prize for bringing me the most rubber duckies, what\u00a0approach would you take?\u00a0 Would you go to one bathtub after another hoping to find one rubber duckie at\u00a0a time, or would you go with a net in hand to a pond where you knew there were hundreds of rubber duckies floating around?\u00a0 Well, that&#8217;s exactly what&#8217;s happening with\u00a0recruiting.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>High school games may have one, perhaps two prospects for a college coach to evaluate.\u00a0 But,\u00a0that same coach can go to a travel ball tournament and see gobs of prospects to evaluate.\u00a0 Yet,\u00a0a coach will spend the same amount of gas, meal money and time to\u00a0get to, and staying at, one\u00a0high school game as for a\u00a0tournament.\u00a0\u00a0A coach would have to\u00a0attend up to\u00a0 20 or more high school games and spend\u00a0a lot more money compared to attending\u00a0one travel tournament.\u00a0 It&#8217;s economics at its most basic level &#8212; spend less to get more.<\/p>\n<p>The second reason?\u00a0 Travel or club season is during coaches&#8217; off seasons while high school seasons typically coincide with colleges&#8217; regular season play.\u00a0 Coaches\u00a0know that <a href=\"www.nsr-inc.com\">travel\u00a0or club ball<\/a> is where they most effectively\u00a0identify and evaluate the most prospects, so that&#8217;s where they focus their attention and budget.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Third reason?\u00a0 College coaches are pinched for time throughout the\u00a0year, but in the end, it is how\u00a0a coach&#8217;s team performs that\u00a0determines if a coach will retain his or her position at the\u00a0school.\u00a0 So, put yourself in the coach&#8217;s shoes.\u00a0 Would you rather help your team\u00a0improve and prepare for the next opponent, or skip practice to catch a high school game to see one or two prospects?\u00a0 That&#8217;s a no-brainer.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s All Really a Matter of Economics College coaches are required to squeeze as much out of a dollar as possible.\u00a0 What does that have to do with them rarely going to high school games?\u00a0\u00a0Let me explain it this way: If I\u00a0said that you would win a prize for bringing me the most rubber duckies, &#8230;
